10 written assignments. Fairly easy. He doesn't provide good feedback but if you put effort into the assignments you shouldn't get anything under an A. You are allowed to work in groups for all of the assignments and they aren't bad at all. The only problem is if you email him his feedback is not helpful at all. Use groupme if your class has one.

This was an online class, he posted lecture videos, which I didn't watch because I didn't find them helpful for the homework. This was my first time taking a chem class and I found it very difficult to understand the material but from what I've heard this class is much easier than the regular General Chemistry class. Professor was understanding.

A total of 10 assignments that are mostly looking up research papers (NOT reading any of them except the methods one for assignment 5) and answer questions about your googling skills. Easy class but he is very strict on formatting so be careful with that. Easy A.

I got like 2 weeks behind because of issues with my Access code but he extended everything and was really helpful. Everything is basically through MasteringChem its a lot of work you can find a lot of the answers online, plus he doesn't grade on correct answers just pretty much how hard you try. Exams are through Proctorio but you get 3 tries

Lots of assignments, some really long, but all pretty easy. Just a lot of busy work. He's a stickler for structure and formatting, but honestly if you just follow his directions carefully you should be fine. And he gives feedback so you can know what you did wrong. Relatively easy A.

Easy class. The assignments are all basically a scavenger hunt that has to deal with using a lot of the research programs similar to google scholar, but it did take me a few hours to complete most of them. It's not difficult tho. Johnston was a great guide; he provided feedback for every assignment and was an extremely fair grader.

CHM4060 Chemical Literature was probably the best elective I could have taken as a science major at USF. Course structuring was great and Professor Johnston was so good about grading papers... even when they were late. Sorry Professor Johnston! If you need one more credit, definitely take this online course.

His expectations are low as long as you actually try to write a decent 2-3 pages. Attendance in mandatory because otherwise no one shows up. Lectures may be a bit boring but he really tries to make it interesting. He also only gives class once a week. Really cares about anything that is happening that might affect class and will work with you.

Awesome professor, took General Chemistry II over Summer B for 6 weeks, you will have to work at a much different rate than fall and spring. Looking at about two chapters a week be ready to work. Put in the work and with the curve you should get an A this doesn't account for slacker students.

I find the reviews a bit harsh, because Professor Johnston is the typical college professor that expects students to be ahead of the game. The most important key to ace this class, is reading before lectures (this prepares you for clicker questions and exams). Second, attend lectures to get clicker questions. Finally, complete online homework.

He's a funny teacher and he curves his tests quite a bit. If you don't look over the slideshows before class or at least pay attention in class you will not get your clicker points. Also yeah come to class if you want a good grade. He does try to help and he's not a tough guy like people make him out to be. he's pretty awesome to be honest.

People complain about him but idk why...I love his jokes, but some people are too sensitive I guess. Taking him now over summer. You HAVE to go to class for clicker points if you want an A. Lots of clicker questions but he curves them he said. Also curves tests. Not the best at explaining things for my learning style so I just read the book.

Some people think he is rude, sometimes yes. Aside from that, if you study you will do well. Do the practice exams, and homework. Go to the tutoring center if you need extra help. I like how Dr. Johnson uses different formulas from the book, sometimes they are easier. I took him for CHM 2045 too, so I know he is not as bad as students say.

Honestly he's a tremendous professor. He's by far the most qualified, exceptional, knowledgable professor in the department. His class is not easy however he gives you the tools necessary in order to succeed in the class. He's a traditional college professor, he will help you but it's up to you to determine the overall grade you get in the class

He makes it easy to earn a A in the class. Each test is insanely curved where you can miss 10 questions and still get a 100%. Final is even more curved. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK. Reviewing the practice tests was also helpful. Overall good professor

Pretty good professor on the whole. Clicker points make attendance mandatory if you want a decent grade, but there is room to miss. Works on a point system over percentage, so exams are merciful given a floor score and the sheer number of questions there are. READ BEFORE LECTURE. He will make you look like an idiot if you don't.

Honestly, if you show up and work out the practice exams there is NO reason why you should not get a perfect score. I read the chapters and asked him if I had any issues. LOTS of extra credit given. Usually 1-2 letter grades on Exams! For final, 23 EXTRA questions were given!! Clicker points are curved at the end.

He is obviously an expert in the material, but the lectures are really only helpful if you do outside prep. I mean its really not a tough class if you do the work. I hear so many people complain about him but I think it's mostly unwarranted. The guy is nice, pretty funny, and extremely knowledgeable. Caveat: skipping guarantees you wont get an A.
