Comment:

Relates a lot of concepts to real life to keep students engaged. He is actually very caring but intimidating at first. Participate even if you think it's wrong and he will like you. He expects you to be very prepared in calculus. If you're struggling just talk to him and he'll try to help you. He is a tough prof but it's worth it.

Comment:

Very practical guy, and pretty interesting. Not a hard class, and so long as you do well on the exams I am pretty sure he basically ignores the homework grades (apparently worth 40%). I had a 65 hw average and somehow still got an A.

Dr. Nowak is a very great guy, very personable. His teaching style is a bit odd by yelling at students, but I sat not in the front row and stared off into space and still got a good grade in the class. 9 total homework and open book midterm and final. Pretty self explanatory. Nowak is a tougher professor, but you will learn some good lessons.

Very energetic teacher who makes lectures interesting. Relates problems to real life. Really wants his students to learn. Weekly homework as well as one midterm and a final. Allows the use of all notes and the book on exams.

He gives out weekly homeworks and lets you use notes on the tests. There are only two tests (midterm and final). He is engaging in lecture and approachable outside of class. He's one of the better engineering professors as GU!

I took Pr. Nowak for several classes and he was my adviser for 4 years. This is a man that you want to know. He is incredibly knowledgeable, but down to earth. He yells, but if you listen you will do well when you get technical interview questions. Without a doubt one of the best professors out of a talented Civil Department.

Yells questions all class as a teaching style. Never outright explains anything, just hollers rhetorical questions. Moves very fast, doesnt follow the book, or books models. Hands out trees worth of useless packets. No real way to learn this class well unless you have an instinct for it. Hard to recommend hard to say avoid, neutral feeling.NICEguy!

Dr. Nowak provides lectures that move too fast and don't follow along with the book at all, which makes the class very confusing. During office hours, he speaks too quickly and doesn't take time to make his help easily understandable. However, he can effectively communicate his knowledge of the engineering field to material covered in the class.

Paul S. "Steel is STRONGER than Concrete!" Nowak is a good teacher. Had him for statics, mechanics of materials, structures, and will have him for more. You sit down, he yells at you, you go home and work hard at homework. Goes over previous tests, midterms are a little bit of a time crunch but finals are fine.

Very good teacher. He loves what he teaches and he is always willing to make sure you understand the material. Homework carries alot of weight in the class which is nice, tests are very straight forward. highly recommended.
