Comment:
Like everyone has said, Bai is a nice guy, and very kind one on one, but offers almost no help in office hours, and there is 0% discussion in his classes. Only scrolls through lectures and offers basic facts that could be looked up online. Test are extremely long and rely on regurgitating facts and names. Not impressed with the depth of this class

Comment:
A lot of memorization, which is unfortunate because this class had potential. He really only stresses spitting back large amounts of info, which makes it difficult to understand the larger framework. Exams are impossible. Don't try to memorizelearn everything unless this class is the only thing you are doing with your life.

Professor Bai is really sweet! He is knowledgable in his area. Even though the tests are hard because we have to memorize a lot of names and pictures, but overall the material is very interesting! I really enjoy this class!

Professor Bai is so sweet and friendly! You can tell he really loves his subject. A lot of memorization of dates and materials, but not hard if you keep up with the pieces. Great class for Art History majors who need non-western classes.

Professor Bai is a really sweet man, but do not expect an easy A. You won't get As for effort in your calligraphy. Reading entirely unnecessary except for the one small report you have to do. Lectures are completely boring but you have to go. Attendance is mandatory!!!!!

Prof. Bai's class is great. He stresses chinese and japanese painting in the class. The whole class is about seeing the movement of religious ideas across the continent of Asia along with the beautiful images that accompanied them, and how they changed with regard to social influences and geographic conditioning.Only complaint is not enough detail!!

The class was challenging but very fun! Professor Bai is passionate about what he teaches. He loves to talk to his students and has a stellar memory. I enjoyed his class so much that I decided to minor in art history. He is inspiring and I recommend his AH530 class.

This man is ADORABLE! Very kind and cares about his students. The class was very interesting and fun, but really challenging even if you know your Chinese. Don't expect to get an A unless you're a great artist.

Accent hard to understand, and speaks fairly quietly. THe class was interesting, but the text book made me fall asleep everytime I read it, and the tests are practically impossible- you have to memorize hundreds of asian artists names and the names of the works- its practically like taking another language- but the papers are a lot better.

Very good, enthusiastic as a professor but amazingly unhelpful for advising - did not return an email requestion an appointment after a week had passed, then declined to give advice beyond "whatever you choose will be fine".

Tough accent at first, but fine after you get used to it. Very interested in what he's talking about, and is pretty clear about the material. Tests are tough - lots of memorization, but typical for an art history class. Grades papers easily.

nice guy. but the exams.. not good. people were crying during the exam.. literally. there is too much information and too much memorization. but he grades really easy, and the essays, really easy. he is hard to understand and hard to communicate with.

Prof. Bai is a sweet man but is not a good lecturer. His voice is monotone and he encourages no discussion. The exams for this class were a complete nightmare. He only wants you to memorize as many works as possible and spit back the info. Not my favorite

Nice guy, but thick accent, which is more endearing than distracting. He's sort of a pushover and if you ask for slack, he'll likely give it to you. Very difficult to remember hundreds of Asian names for exams, calligraphy demonstration is incredible.
