He doesn't lecture. Plain and simple. He has a few videos covering the course that he tells you to watch but otherwise he contributes nothing to his own class. Lecture days consist of a TA doing 1-3 problems on a white board. So, prepare to teach yourself the entire course.

At one point I was ready to drop the class, but my midterm grade 41% was curved to a C. Instead of teaching,he will just curve the grades.I guess I am fine with that. I just wish what I learned in the class matched my final grade. This felt like an online class c with no teacher long video lectures, no homework, teach yourself, all tests, good luck

Bad teacher. Rude, condescending. Doesn't help. He blames the student, not himself. Doesn't teach. Failed most tests. Lazy. He'd rather curve grades to a B at the end than to actually teach students. You teach yourself. Instead of class, he has 2 hour long YouTube videos that don't help. Most test questions are from the book, not videos. Curve: DB

The course description is not what the class is actually like. You should have a good foundation in coding and 3D design before taking the class. The material isn't taught but instead there are some vaguely helpful videos. You're expected to put way too much time into you projects for an elective. Class time is pointless but you have to go for hw.

I had a variety of issues getting into the class and Dr. Schlaf was helpful in getting me signed up. In addition, any issues with grades he was quick to respond and get them sorted out quickly.

I was not impressed with Mr. Schlaf's professionalism and communication skills. When asking him questions he seemed condescending and belittling towards students. Generally, he was not very friendly and did not conduct himself in a positive manner. I would not recommend this professor.

Sustainable Energy: The material isn't difficult at all, but you can lose points very easily. Every week there is a quiz (7 questions). It's so easy to mess them up and if you're in any hard science - this class is not for you. If you're an undergrad student the paper will boost your grade. If grad, the paper will decrease your grade. Enjoy.

Very vague on his grading; inconsistent with students across the board. Exams and quizzes have many questions that are extremely ambiguous leaving you to guess which answer he would want. Disappointed with the only engineering professor I'll ever have, I've taken much harder classes and have done much better.

Pros: You learn a lot of useful skills in different areas. Tons of fun for engineers. Cons: By far the most work I've ever done for a class. Too much critique on the "quality" of the videos. EngineeringART Tips: Require more of the project earlier. Get some prototypes on the tables for TAs to help. More group work? (Pair a CSE with EE)

MAKE Pro: Many projects. Work with 3D pritning, Arduino (kit with many parts). Don't need to go to class much. Instructors are awesome and their online videos are some of the best! Cons: In class they just recap a vid they ask to watch before class so if you watch it before hand there isn't much reason to go to class unless you have a questions.

Do not fall behind, you will never catch up. Projects are assigned in lieu of exams but easy grader if you try and put effort into the deliverables. By far the most work by time put in than any of my other engineering classes but work overall is not by that difficult.

This is for the MAKE Course. This was an interesting elective but rather focusing on MAKING something awesome a great deal of your time will be learning how to make an awesome video. Videos should be optional for EC as in the real world I would present my work to my boss not a video... Also the black box should be negotiable depending on project.

His class is easy and as long as you do the work that he ask ( which was not much) you will do fine in his class.

Dr Schalf is the best EE prof at USF. He is engaging when he teaches, and easy to understand. You have to study for his exams, but they are on exactly what he covers in class. Never assigns homework, barely have to crack a book if you keep good notes. Take him if you can.

What Schlaf does is read your textbook to you but with feeling. You can tell he really likes the material and the class, and he loves students. But if you wanna be honest you really can get everything hes saying in class by just reading the book. Great guy overall and sexxy. Study his old exams youll do fine.
