Comment:
Professor Hartsel organized his class so quizzes and projects were spread out so the class was not super stressful, especially for a Winterim class. His lectures were to the point, yet had a digestible, entertaining commentary. My one issue with him is when he took off points on my assignments he didn't leave feedback.

not a fan of how he went about teaching this class fall of 2020. in person class time was basically just a time to ask questions from a handful of chapters in which you had to take all the notes online from him reading a powerpoint

He made lab very fun and easy. Only downfall is it takes awhile for him to grade things but generally he grades pretty easy. I'd definitely recommend him for chem lab

Biochem and Biochem lab are hard classes, but Dr. Hartsel is so kind and a great lecturer. Every lecture is genuinely funny and interesting and even though I struggled with some of the material I always really enjoyed lecture because he made it fun. Absolutely take lab with him if you get the chance. Really an awesome prof.

This class ended up being half during COVID-19 half in person. The in-person part of it was totally fine. He is a super nice guy and is willing to help you understand anything. You just have to ask! He does office hours at Davies, but usually no one comes. Go to his office hours though! It's really helpful and you get to know him. Great Professor!

Hartsel makes this class very enjoyable! It's a hard subject so reading the textbook helps a lot! You are graded on OWL homework which is pretty easy to get 100% on! Totally recommend! He is very funny and cares a lot about his students! He also loves to talk about anything and everything!

Dr. H is one of my favorite Professors, hands down! I had him for Chem 106 and Chem 150, I would definitely take both classes again. He is very knowledgeable about all topics and breaks them down so they're easier to understand. As long as you listen and do the work, you will do fine in the class. He made us ice cream in Chem 106! A Great Guy!

Dr. Hartsel is super smart and lectures are interesting! Exams always have take home sections which were often a good portion of the exam! He seems to go on tangents a lot and so it is hard to decide what is important vs not important though. Lots of homework points throughout the semester which usually easy points!

Dr. Hartsel is incredibly smart and though his lectures tend to be fast, they are very interesting! I had to study hard in this class but Dr. Hartsel is not an insanely hard grader and offered homework assignments throughout the semester as well. There is ALWAYS a take home part to the exam which helped immensely! Would recommend!

I like his lectures but he tends to talk like he is in a conversation vs like he is teaching (if that makes sense). I always feel like he is on a tangent so it's hard for me to recognize what I should and shouldn't write down, this makes exams difficult. Lectures are a must because he goes so much more in depth than the power points he posts.

I took this class over Winterim & was preparing for it to be a killer. To my surprise, I really enjoyed this class. Don't get me wrong, you need to dedicate some serious time to the homework. DO THE HOMEWORK it's worth a lot of EASY POINTS. Look at the previous exam that he posts on D2L for exam 1 and you'll get an A. 2nd exam BLOWS so do the HW!!

I only had Dr. H for lab, but I learned more here than I ever did in lecture. He takes the time to slow down and make sure everyone understands what is happening. He is very helpful and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. He also almost always let us out almost an hour early.

I took CHEM 150 over winterim and I loved it. It was nice to have as your only class to concentrate on. There is a lot of OWL homework, but as long as you keep up with it, it can help boost your grade in the end. You go through a chapter a day at least and you are only graded on OWL homework and 2 tests! Overall a GREAT professor.

This class provided a great deal of insight into the discovery and methods involved in the development of pharmaceuticals. I learned a great deal from a chemistry, biology and physics standpoint. Grades are based on three exams, papers and a bit of homework. Thankfully, he is a super easy grader! Fun lecturer as well.

I took biochem during winterim, thinking it was going to be a super hard class. I had taken organic chemistry in high school which made this class super easy. Homework can take awhile each night and he has two tests, which were pretty long. Overall, he was a great professor and I would definitely take his class again.

Hartsel's my favorite professor so far. He really made biochem interesting. Fun lectures- he's easily distracted and goes off on funny tangents. Tests can be hard, but they're completely off the notes. Very willing to help in class or if you go to his office and talk to him. Powerpoints are online but you miss a lot if you don't go to class

Dr. Hartsel is an excellent professor and explains things very clearly. This is a professor you will have to study for but he does not throw curveballs. What he explains in class will be on the test. He also does not expect you to memorize equations which saves on the headaches. Great Professor!

Hartsel was a good professor. I took this class over wintierim and didn't realize how hard it was going to be. Homework for at least 5 hours out of class. Exams were difficult and 2 exams determine the whole grade. Take at your own risk. It isn't too bad if you stay on top of things.
