He was very welcoming and didn't give much work. The whole class was surrounded by 8 though papers based on what we were reading, and a final project. Half the papers were interchangeable for art pieces which were easy and quick. not a stressful course in any means, although be ready to read.

His energy and enthusiasm made it easy to go to his 8:40 am class. He shows a genuine interest in your perspective, and is kind and considerate of your personal needs. The material was so interesting: comic books, TV shows, sci fi, and classics. I wish I could take all of his classes. You can even hand in art instead of essays.

I have taken every class of his I could fit in - very fun and easygoing, lots of just fun knowledge as well as the course material. Has weekly informal "papers" that can be turned in at any time. Lots of reading, but generally enjoyable. Interact with him a little inside or outside of class, and you'll have a great time!

A word of advice: take a class with Dr. T.! Even if it doesn't count toward your major. He is extremely knowledgeable and fun, and I enjoyed his class more than any other at Cornell. It was so refreshing to have a teacher who cares more about learning than about strict rules. And get to know him-he's one of the nicest people there is at Cornell.

Dr. T. is by far one of the greatest human beings I have yet to encounter. Take advantage of his office hours and get to know him because he wants to get to know you. I've taken a class with him almost every semester because I enjoy the material he teaches and teaching style. He does his best to cater to the needs/interests of all of his students.

Really smart guy and funny lecturer. Isn't too interested in grades, but rather participation and actual learning. Take a class of his. I knew nothing about NES before, but I enjoyed the readings and he was extremely accessible.

Very subjective when it comes to final grades. He makes it seem like he grades liberally, but when it comes to final grades, he's rough. Otherwise an interesting class

I have to disagree with the person who claims that Shawkat is all about being fundamentalist. That's just plain wrong. I took two classes with him and approached every assignment from my own Atheist point of view. I was never penalized for my beliefs and I received excellent marks in his class. He's a great teacher, and a very fair grader.

An excellent professor, cares as much about teaching you how to learn as the course material. Always open to any view point, and carefully considers everything any student says with an open mind. A little unorganizes (but in kind of a cute way). Overall one of my top three professors at Cornell.

My favorite teacher at this university. Very unorganized, but an amazing lecturer, who always keeps class interesting. However, be warned in that he as much about teaching you to think as the course subject. His grading is liberal.

My problem with this guy is he's all about being fundamentalist. You have to agree with HIM or he grades you down.

My favorite teacher here yet, and I'm a bio major. Loves the material, engages his students, terribly interesting, even more friendly, a bit disorganized and grading scheme is a bit unclear, but all around worth way more than most profs @ CU.

coolest teacher ever with the best methods of grading. the final project was a plastic project where you could make anything you wanted as long as it represented something that was taught or realized through the class material. great professor!!!
