Dr Kaipio is a very traditional professor! He doesn't use power points or anything, he just stands there and talks, which I found very awful at first. He did some really amazing lectures, however, and if you need help on your papers he is happy to help. A very smart and kind man. Funny too.

Dr Kaipio is a very traditional professor. Don't take this class expecting a powerpoint, overhead, or drawing on the board because it will not happen. I found this extremely refreshing and his lectures are interesting because he is so passionate. Smartest man I have ever met and very approachable if you need to pick his brain.

Amazing. Great lecturer, super prepared, super interesting. Not great at answering questions because he is hard of hearing... but amazing otherwise. He uses all three textbooks cover to cover but summarizes everything. Go to lectures, or read the books, no need to do both.

His lecture on the industrial revolution was by far the most... Interesting. If you take his course, which I would recommend, you will definitely understand the making of the modern world. You also might want to attend his class seeing as he lectures directly from the text... It will save you from reading the actual book later on!

Lectures aren't bad. He is definitely passionate, and sometimes just seems angry. Follows our textbooks chapter by chapter. Asked him a question by email and by his response it was clear he didn't read/understand my email at all. Since this was an online class, there was no way to talk to him in person.

Comment:

He was fair in his grading and made the material interesting and enjoyable. He was also approachable outside of class, but you have to pay close attention to the content of his syllabus, especially before asking a question. Overall I would highly recommend him to other students.

He is extremely passionate about his lectures, making it interesting to listen to. He is an EXCELLENT prof, also extremely knowledgeable. As someone who has never been enjoyed history he makes it entertaining. Work Hard and it will pay off!!

Good teacher, knows his stuff. He is a hard marker. Sometimes can be funny. I barely skipped class. He give you the whole exam to study word for word. If you study long and hard you will do very well. If not then you will not do well.

I really enjoy his lectures. He's very passionate about his opinions, which makes the lectures entertaining to attend. I feel like I'm one of the only people in class awake, though. I actually learned alot in the class, and he made it interesting.

He's the best in my opinion. Only two assignments throughout the year, gives you the exam topics, AND is very good with extensions for the assignments. Not to mention he is extremely knowledgeable and quite passionate about some topics (which makes him quite funny).

People have a problem with him because he's old school, meaning that you get your education through academic RIGOUR. If you want easy explanations, look for a different discipline. Dr. Kaipio will always help you if you make arrangements to meet, and he is extremely knowledgeable. Work hard and you'll receive a first class education from him.

Yes, i completely agree with the bad comments about this prof. For the student who had good things to say has never taken a history course because most hsitory profs disect history like he does. His lectures are not as boring as they are hard to follow. He marks essays extremely hard and they are worth a hell of a lot in his classes.
