Comment:

I took Chem 121 with prof Barstis at the beginning of my freshman year. she is a very energetic teacher, but if you don't already know chem, do not take this class. I had a very good understanding of chem before I took the class, but I could never get past a 33% when I took a test, and even my friends that knew chem very well never got past a 70%.

Comment:

I struggle in chemistry but this professor took it to a whole new level. I could not keep up with any of her lectures, she was generallly not available for extra help since she is so busy, and she refused to give any guidance on graded work. Do NOT take this class unless you already have a good understanding of chem. She assumes ALOT of knowledge.

Dr. Barstis was my favorite professor all semester. Although she didn't make things easy, you knew that you were getting a good grasp of the material and would retain it better than those in other sections of the class. Her personality is very quirky but if you can appreciate that and work hard in class, you'll love her.

Comment:

Professor Barstis is a very fun, interesting person but i had a lot of trouble following in class. Very difficult if you don't learn well on your own. Make sure you study the concepts in depth and can describe them from all types of angles. She will give great extra help but you must ask for it. Her tests are very difficult; you can't study enough.

Doc Barstis is certifiable. Seriously. But I know I wouldn't love her so much if she were any other way. If she didn't run 700 miles at 4 am every morning and come to class completely loaded on caffeine and yell "THIS REALLY ZONKS ME OUT!" at least nine times per class... I'd be scared. I hated Chemistry but at least she made it fun.
