She is a wonderful woman and incredibly knowledgable. I took her Translation Concepts and Practice course. While I did mediocre on her midterm and terrible on the first quiz, I came out with a great grade. She obviously wants her students to succeed and will reward you if you put in the effort. Only critique is that she was difficult to contact.

Best professor I've ever had! She takes the class seriously and pushes hard, so you learn more in a semester than you could imagine! She is also always willing to listen and help; she takes everyone's success seriously as long as you're willing to put in the work. She's also just kind, funny, and an amazing resource outside of the classroom.

She was a lifesaver this semester! The work required for this class was actually really helpful with becoming more fluent in French, and she was also really good at altering the syllabustests to meet the class's needs. Overall, if you show up and pay attention, you can get a good grade.

Truly a nice lady, but pretty hard. It's true that it helps if you get on her good side (tell her about yourself, your hobbies, especially if you do music!). She really does care about how you do in class. Grades aren't based on test scores, but on participation and 'improvement'. I would recommend her if you like French (especially grammar.

Most students either love her or hate her. She does give alot of work and does send out email with more homework than what's on the syllabus. She is a really nice person and is willing to help if you go to her and ask. She wants her students to succeed and she sets high standards.

I used to enjoy French prior to this class. Prof is hard for no reason, has favorites and refuses to be helpful. The only way to do well in the class is to send her a thank you card for all the hard work she does. Very disappointing. I'm not improving my grammar at all because I'm so bogged down with hw. Book is dense and difficult to get through.

While Chatterjee might be a great academic, she was certainly not meant to teach. Thinks the world of herself, but could care less about the students. Teaches what she wants at her own speed and completely disregards the needs of the students. My grammar has improved, but at the cost of my grade. Just avoid her unless you want a miserable semester.

Truly a bad professor. Cares more about herself than the students (you will hear a lot about how great she is). Shoves you off on tutors and supplies you with endless amounts of homework hours before class. Refuses to follow the dept syllabus b/c it doesn't have enough work, and her grading system seems purely based on her personal opinion of you.

She is a tough grader but you should take her class if you want to improve your French. She focuses on the details. She makes her quizzes and her tests and she includes all the irregular verbs and the exceptions. Her tests might seem hard but the final will be easier.

She expects a lot of effort from her students, and is a tough but fair grader. She can be a bit confusing regarding assignments, but once you know her style, it's okay. Definitely go to her office hours, because showing interest definitely benefits you grade-wise.

If you want to learn French, you need to take Chatterjee. She is the most knowledgeable of all the teachers, a fair grader, and your French will noticeably improve by the end of just one semester.

class focuses alot on grammar however the final focused on the books and movies we covered in the class. i think she really wants her students to do well and is interested in hearing everyones opinion, however, if you do not speak up, she will call on you. if you don't like to speak in class, be prepared.

She's a really sweet woman, will help you out with as much as she can but don't expect an easy grade-once she finds out your ability she MAKES you improve on it to get a good grade. I do really like the class, even tho there's alot of grammar involved

I took this class because it was at an advanced level and i figured we'd be doing lots of reading. Instead we did TONS of grammar. Her tests are hard and disorganized. Her class hours are minimal and she keeps trying to unload you on tutors in the labs that can't help you. However, she's a nice person and is pretty leniant on hand-in time.

I took both Advanced French I and II with her. I didn't really like her the first one but once I got used to her teaching style then she was a great professor. She is very nice and realizes that everyone is at a different level in the class. She's a tough grader.
