Comment:
Arrogant and just reply e-mails like text messages. Not a tough grader, but the tests are VERY difficult. You need to do a final video project that uses the concepts taught in the class. It is annoying, but you will feel the sense of achievement after finishing it. Won't take the class again. I did learn something from the class, but not a lot...

Pros: Easy grader. Got an A and didnt do the readings. Cons: not helpful at all, unapproachable, arrogant, makes fun of students, rude, disrespectful. Seems annoyed to have to teach people. He should stay in the field.

Language and culture was a great class. Still thinking about it. And Dr. Leap was so passionate and into his subject that he made you care. Good class. Don't be intimidated by Dr. Leap, he is a really helpful and kind guy.

one of the few professors at AU who is very enthusiastic about teaching and clearly enjoys his work. His positive attitude will eventually rub off on you. the readings may look hard but he is an extremely fair grader and all he is looking for is grasping of fundamental ideas/concepts. very approachable and helpful.take notes religiously.

Language and Culture was a requirement for my major but it was a very interesting class. He presented a lot of new information and expected a lot, but he was very approachable. All the readings were on e-reserves which means you don't have to buy a textbook!

Language and Culture- he's a great prof- expects a lot. He will make fun of you if you ask silly questions, but is very helpful if you have a legitimate question or concern. He makes a big deal about the readings, but I barely did any of them and got As on both tests

Sex, Gender and Culture class was very interesting. I learned a lot about gender and really enjoyed learning the material. Professor Leap is very knowlegable about the material and is very open to comments. His tests are challenging, but as long as you work hard you can get an A. He is a great professor.

language and culture- A LOT of work. but he sees and rewards students who ask questions, goes to office hours. 2 test and a midterm and final, you have to study, its not an easy A but not too hard to do well. get on his good side early on. talk ALOT in class. ALOT!

dont take language and culture unless it is a requirement for your major. The class is a broad overview of the entire subject and pretty bad. Leap is an ok professor, teaches his research a bunch. this past semester we made documentaries instead of a research paper and that was amazing and life changing and saved a fairly boring class from sucking.

The one bad thing about being an anthropology major is having to deal with this overbearing, arrogant, cocky, unhelpful man. Language & Culture was okay if you read the material, but he is NOT approachable or helpful about ANYTHING.

so, the class sucks because the material is often not very interesting- but he's great. he's kind of funny, kind of overbearing, kind of arrogant. but he knows what's he's talking about and wants you to do well. and if he likes you, you'll get a good grade.

I've never been so intimated by anyone in my life. He expects the very best from students, so be on your game. Taking his class wasn't the most pleasant experience, but he's a brilliant teacher and really makes you learn. It's worth it.

As other people have said, he can come across as arrogant and he definitely is more comfortable in the field than in the classroom. His classes can range from the incredibly interesting to the mind numbingly boring. If you get on his good side, he's probably a great mentor, so long as you agree with his ideas. He's not the most approachable of professors either, as he has a tendency to make you feel like an idiot for asking a question.

I was interested in Anthropology until I took this class...Our studies for my Introduction to anthropology included Filipino Drag Queens in America and a tiny island nation and the way they play cricket. Hated the course.

An expert in his field, and it shows ( ie, a little cocky). He intimidates people but ultimately is very fair and helpful. You must do the readings and especially participate.

Intelligent, but very unprofessional. Comes accross as arrogant. He is not clear about his expectations. His knowledge about his topic area is limited.
