Pretty good as mechie profs go. Actually tried to accomodate the engphys crew :) Good explanations, but would be nice if he didn't succumb to the class's "boo, boo" when he offered to show us full derivations. Took it upon himself to remark all 210 midterms after the TAs screwed up the grading, thank you so much! :)

he wasn't any good for the first half of the course (the easy part) with incompressible flow... but when we got into nozzles and supersonic flow, you could tell it was what he really enjoyed teaching, and I understood him perfectly. I doubt anyone could teach compressible flow better than Birk.

Very difficult course; more difficult than necessary perhaps. Lectures confusing, but Prof Birk is _extremely_ helpful outside of class if you take the time. Obviously very interested and knowledgable in subject material.

HARD prof. I think he is the only professor in mechanical engineering who has the policy that - If the student fails the final exam then their mark will be based 100% on the final exam (and no credit for term work) Turbomachinery is also a tough course!
