Prof. Gaitenby is a really great professor who can hold your attention. He's a pretty tough grader and his quizzes are rough but if you go to class and do the reading you should be fine. He jokes around a lot and really cares about his students. He's a solid choice for a legal prof and someone you can count on to help you out if you need it.

Professor Gaitenby is really able to hold your attention in lectures. He makes jokes and asks for students opinions often to keep you interested and always stays on topic. All the readings are posted on moodle so students don't have to buy expensive textbooks. Exams aren't designed to fool you everything on them is from lecture and chronological.

If you do a majority of the readings (at least skim) and take decent notes in class, you will get an A. He tries very hard to apply real world examples, and encourages discussion in the lecture. Funny guy, who isn't looking to break anyones back.

Prof. Gaitenby is one of my favorite professors; he's super down-to-earth and really sharpens your critical thinking skills. Attendance is necessary to get an A but sessions are never boring; all readings are posted online but do need to be read. I highly recommend taking any class with Prof. Gaitenby if possible!!

For someone who declared a legal studies major this semester, I could not feel more confident in that choice thanks to Professor Gaitenby. He is truly inspirational and clearly passionate in the lectures he teaches, which helps keep the students interested as well. He's super down to earth, swears in class, and doesn't bother teaching useless BS

Professor Gaitenby is my favorite professor this semester. He is very smart and makes lectures interesting, funny, and relatable. This class is at 10 AM, which is early for me, but I have never missed a class because I always want to go to his class. He care a lot about his students and wants his class to be a good experience.

I've taken multiple classes with him, and yeah he can be challenging, but if you got to class, engage with conversation, and stop by office hour, you WILL do well without a doubt. By far one of my favorite professors.

Gaitenby's classes can be difficult, but only because he has moderate to high standards. If you put in the effort to take notes, you will do well. Otherwise, his classes are typically interesting and there is plenty of engaging conversation. Gaitenby is far and away my favorite professor at UMass, you would be losing out to not take his classes.

Funny professor, very intelligent, great class. I thought the grading and test methods were extremely fair, esp for a Legal Studies course. I don't think people who consider HIM pompous or biased are anywhere near ready for many other law classes.

Really boring classes. He acts as if you know everything about law and are legal studies students, even though the majority of the class isn't. It isn't the easiest class if it's just for the gen ed. Boring as hell too, although sometimes the in class discussion can get interesting..

SO BORING! I honestly struggle to get myself to go to class. His midterm wasn't completely horrible, but make sure that you go to class occassionally because he gives random quizzes.
