Alan Shandro is the best of the best. There is no smarter, more caring and thorough prof as him. If you want to succeed you MUST be interested in the content because there is a lot of reading, and discussion is worth much of your grade. I recommend his classes over any others at Laurentian. Amazing, inspiring, life-changing. Take his class.

He is knowledgable but he shouldn't be teaching first year. Not only does he struggle to teach the concepts that he covers in the class but you normally leave feeling more confused about the subject. His lectures are confusing and he often goes on long off topic rants. Be prepared to agree with his views in order to get an A on your papers

I feel like there's actually two shandro's in his head, and each one is in a different point in the lecture, and they're just fighting for control, which is he face palms and has extended pauses where he looks like he's in physical pain

He's almost always going off on completely irrelevant tangents, and he's not the nicest or easiest person to approach either. Quite intimidating

history of political thought: Shandro is a great guy, a really tough marker and sometimes not very clear. He does make an effort to make sure you understand the content and he is very approachable and super nice. Good course to take, I do not recommend his four year classes.

A very interesting professor who knows what he is teaching. For some he might be hard to follow and not always clear on his thoughts. But this is a good quality because it allows you to be critical on the readings and subject matter. He know his stuff very well, but he doesn¨t want to spoon feed his students with the answer. Great prof

Worse class ever. I liked the subject material but trying to follow Shandro is nearly impossible. Even worse was trying to understand what he wants in your essays. Ask for help and expect nothing. Small percentage love him, huge percentage detest him. I will never take another class from him again.

I've taken 5 curses with Alan. I find his interests lie to much in the classics and sometimes its very hard for him to stay current in theoretical debates. He is a fair marker, though my definition of fair requires doing the work honestly. He has never really included much fascism, feminism or anarchism in his political thought course.

If you're looking for a prof that doesn't care about the material, or his students, don't take Shandro's course. He expects a lot--of THINKING, that is--from his students and will reward good work. Sure he's a socialist, but he respects anyone with a thoughtful opinion.

good guy, but bad professor. hes not clear in class. this class is one that when you finish the final exam you will never have have to use the information again, just like the C on your transcript. just think from day on, it will soon be over, when its over go to the pub, have a lot of beer and everything will be made better...

Wonderful prof, very supportive. Only time that things were confusing were when I didnt do the readings, otherwise very interesting classes, really makes you think. Some people who have really good marks not at all ideologically similar, the key is to spend more than a night on essays. Highly recommended!!

If you actually do the readings, and if you are interested in what he is teaching, you should find prof. Shandro's classes quite interesting, and you should be able to get a decent mark regardless of what your political persuasion.

he is pretty cool and he really knows what he is talking about. however he has a difficult time communicating to students that just came out of high school. his lectures were long and very very hard to follow considering it was an intro political science class. i was very lost and i tried to do well, but didnt : (
