His lectures lack creativity or effort. Takes too long to provide feedback on tests/homework. Takes too long to respond to emails. Will patronize you for asking questions in class. This is unacceptable. He clearly lacks passion for his work or his students. I absolutely recommend taking courses with another professor.

Where does one begin... If I wanted Microsoft Sam to read me the contents of a power point that was made 6 years ago in the most monotonous dialect, I would take this class again. In fact, going to class offers nothing I can't (or have to) learn on my own beside an attendance point. There is no homework, beside teaching yourself everything. GL!

Amazing professor, he teaches coding through power points but just study those and you will pass. Would recommend everyone to take him if he is teaching in that time. He grades easily and tells you whats on exam. He also makes alot of jokes in class to make students laugh plus his writing is the best. I would say he is a gem out of this world.

Condescending when asked questions, reads off PowerPoints, extremely vague assignment criteria but wants very specific answers, and relies on students to correct his bad code. Refuses to acknowledge when a student is correct. The material is trivial, but made much more complicated with a professor who can't teach.

If you really pay attention to what he is saying in the class you will do well. Also even though the assignments are tough he will go out of his way to help you out.

Copies a lot of code on the board from a book, but doesn't explain what's happening. Teaches with absolutely no enthusiasm whatsoever.

Avoid this professor. He reads verbatim from text book publisher slides. His program examples usually need to be debugged, which he looks to his students for help with this. His examples are often confusing. Finally he is condescending, especially when asked questions or asking students for answers.

Dr. Hart basically reads off of the publisher's powerpoint slides, and doesn't elaborate further upon the topics covered. His code usually has bugs, and relies heavily upon student help to debug his programs which should work, you know, since he is the instructor. Overall, a poor teacher. If you ask questions, he will patronize you. Teach yourself.

Not a fan of Prof. Hart. He seems to know what he is talking about but all he does is just read textbook publisher slides. If he tried actually teaching us something I think he would be pretty good. Very few assignments to learn from. Would learn more if he assigned more. Don't ask questions in class, he will make you feel bad for asking usually.

IT414 S12 Advanced Object Oriented Programming. Good Professor, he knows what he is talking about. He has very few assignments and only a midterm and final. There is also a final Paper that is usually 7-12 pages in length and he wants it in 10pt single spaced times new roman. Only get the Headfirst book because the others aren't used.

Comment:
His class is based off of two things. One, that you know the basic coding of Python. Two, that if you're confused you'll ask a question. He goes through the book fast at first, then slows down as you get into new concepts not mentioned in 210. If you do both, you're golden. At first he's kinda gruff, but he's a fair grader and helps those who ask.

Ok teacher for this class, considering that it is mostly just dense theory. Don't bother buying the refactoring or the aspectJ book, you won't ever open them. Easy class to finish college with and always small class size. Looks very good on a resume.

This guy will talk down to students who ask what he thinks are "Stupid questions". The guy's office is a mess, and he smokes too much...too many butt kissers in that class. He reads verbatim from the power point slides all semester, and has to have his students in class help him debug his errors before his code compiles.

The people commenting below about his teaching style are kind of slow I'd guess. He types out code fast in class, but in a lot of classes I'm guessing no one asks questions. Days where the class participates in coding and discussions by asking questions are the days where it seems like learning the Java code is much easier.

smart guy just a terrible teacher. he writes the code as if we already know what it means and gives no explanation why that certain code would be used. and the book does not have the python code in it since its a java book. do not take hart if you don't want to have to teach yourself

Second time taking, I have chosen not to go to class but to check D2L daily for updates. I have gotten A's and one B on programming assignments and only attended for Test Days. This class isn't worth your time. COMS classes are best spent programming!! class is overrated, assignments don't follow theoretical algorithms. Java sucks C++ for life!

Exams were like I expected, a little on the difficult side. Graded programming assignments fairly, assuming you could figure them out. Very approachable out of class, however, not very helpful. Tutors didn't help much either. Essentially, you're on your own with the book and the Java docs.

Hart has good knowledge of the subject, but CAN NOT TEACH! He is very unorganized and extremely complicated. Despite hours at the tutor and attempts to ask him questions, when it comes down to it, you teach yourself from the horrid textbook. I'm currently retaking this with Roiger. Needless to say I'm learning the material with ease.DON'T TAKE HART
