In Junior year here at sdsu and must say for a transfer student taking a lvl 100 course this is by far the most difficult history I've taken. I do really good in history classes even though I'm no history major. Professors grading rubric for reading assignments are tedious and unnecessarily difficult with (no feedback). Don't recommend at all.

Tough grader, it's a bit ridiculous for a 100 level class. Lectures are absolute torture and everyone is practically falling asleep. Would not recommend this course for someone looking for an easy GE.

One of the worst classes I have ever taken. No matter how great of a writer you may be outside of his class, you may find yourself with very low grades from Weise. It seems as if he searches for ways to deduct points from your writings. He talks fast and skips around in lectures so taking good notes is impossible and his PowerPoints are useless.

His tests are like essays. Pick 5 out of 10 questions to answer and it has to be pretty accurate. Time limit for the midterm, which doesn't give you much time to finish everything so I got a pretty bad grade on it. He will help you with the reading questions if you ask him to look over it. If you know the material well, you'll be okay.

This course is much harder than it should be for an introductory level class. I am writing this as a warning for others. If you are an exceptionally talented writer, he will still critique your assignments and find ways to deduct points. If you are forced into taking this class for some reason, write to his opinion in order to receive decent credit

Has awesome lectures but grades on writing ability more than content. Expects you to somehow manage to clearly write paragraph responses with 3 examples each and supporting arguments for your cited data. It would take me at least a 3 paragraph essay to to do that clearly. Don't skip class or readings, you have to cite them wo notes on tests!

Professor Weise is a fantastic orator. I can recall one time where (as the saying goes) you could hear a pin drop in a lecture hall of about 250 people because the lecture had become so engaging. And yes, you do have to read the textbook. Lectures are meant to build on what you've already read, not substitute for what you haven't, you dolts.

It's an easy class, but a lot of that depends on your TA. Lectures are useless to attend because you come away with no notes. He rarely makes the point in which he intends and if he does, he does it in code.

The best class I have had at SDSU! I learned the lessons about Radical Republicans that put in the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, the difference between a Lincoln Republican and a Johnson Republican, about how the Southerners migrated to the West after the Civil War and exploited the Hyspanic for labor; Many Champions: MLK, FDR, Henry Kaiser.

Only accepts his interpretation of the information. His lecture are well rehearsed, and asking question is pointless. The essay, and group project is tedious and really the only way to get a good grade is to word it the way he would. no place for thinking for yourself, only to repeat the information. Two test, final project and essay

Arbitrary grader. Does not grade papers on content, rather on how he would have phrased the info. Massive final group project on Micro Fiche. Midterm and final exam essay's are straight forward. Nice guy, poor condescending professor.

His lectures were boring and typically didnt teach much. The class was vague and difficult because of it. The best advise i can give is get an easy TA. otherwise it may be a little tuff.

His lectures are super boring and I think that he just likes to hear himself talk a lot. If you get an easy TA then its not too bad, but if they grade hard it makes it a hard class.

Teacher is AWFUL. His lectures consist of every media possible- its overload and none of it is on the test. Slides consist of picture and captions, lectures like a prepared speech, impossible to take notes. Tests are ridiculously hard for this level- 5 short essays in 50 mins. Refuses to do a study guide, so study EVERYTHING.

Nice guy, very passionate about the subject, but lectures like a book. He sounds like hes performing a well rehearsed monologue every lecture, which makes asking questions a bit unacceptable. Grading is ridiculous. There is no flexibility in writing, and each paper (weekly) must follow mandatory guidelines and small mistakes can cost you 25%.Silly.

I couldn't hate this guy more if he killed my father. It was like he was having a private affair with the subject and we all had to watch. He's entirely too self-important to stand and the emphasis he puts on writing is inappropriate for the subject and level. I knew he was hard going in but I had to take it.

This class is extremely boring. For an intro 110 class it has unreasonable amounts of reading. One week had 110 pages of reading to do on top of finishing an essay. Guy must think that your only enrolled in his class. Write to what he wants to hear.

He's a nice guy, but his lectures are boring and I wish he would involve the students more during lectures. He loves 2 hear himself talk and that's all he does for our 50 min. lecture. Grades strictly,on tests and essays(and it's a freshman class). Overall, not that easy but not that hard. u have to go 2 lecture and do readings 2 pass the class.

His lectures can get really boring but sometimes he'll show a film or something. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about history There's an exorbitant amount of reading but if writing's your strongpoint there's a midterm paper and tests are just essays on terms. Take good notes and if you can quote the text(s) or him you'll ace the tests.

knows his stuff extremely well, which i learned a lot from about the Great Depression, New Deal, WW II etc. however, wasn't very clear in what he wanted when it comes to papers or exams. needed to go to his office hours in order to know what is expected to do fine in the course. MUST read, go to lecture and office hours to pass the class.
