Comment:
Dr. O'Leary gives very few assignments. Instead of giving tests he gives group projects. Homework assignments are extremely hard. He grades very tough, but he is very forgiving. You can pass with a 60 and he gives lots of extra credit.

Dr. O'Leary is a tough grader; however, you can pass with a 60. Homeworks are insanely hard and he lectures heavily.

Best class and best teacher I've ever had. If you didn't like this class, its because you're a lazy F**k and don't deserve a degree in the first place. Do the work and you will be greatly rewarded.

Be prepared to invest lots of time into this class. It is by far the most rewarding class though. You'll learn more from this class than all your other classes combined. If you're willing to invest the time, it will pay dividends. Take extra time to learn concepts that aren't fully covered. This class rocks, and this teacher rocks too.

I took this class with Dr. O'Leary on Spring 2009. Class is self-tought for the most part, but an awesome learning experience. Best class I've ever taken. On his own words, you take out of the class what you put into it. Be prepared to live inside the lab most of the time during the semester. Great class for learning NW, OS, and App Security.

First time I have ever failed a math class. Ever! He gave us to much homework and we needed to memorize definitions and proofs for exams. He spent to much time on theory and did little in the way of examples. And one more thing. THIS GUY IS AN ASS!

Took Calc I, Calc II, Models, Scientific Simulation, Euclidean/NonEuclidean Geometry from Dr. O'Leary. Learned more from him than any other prof @ Towson. He expects you to work, and when you do you learn. Always was available during office hours to direct you toward the answer, not give you the answer.

Be prepared to work. 12+ hours of homework per week. But I learned more from him than any other professor at Towson. Not a tough grader as long as you make an attempt. If you put in the time and effort you'll do fine.

PRO: Very enjoyable concept course. Provides env to learn Ntwk, Platform and App security. CON: Everything is self-taught. Excessive work load (4+ team proj/sem @ 60-80+ hrs commitment/member). Grading seems almost completely discretionary. Prof is extremely blackhat and tries to instill those values in all his students. Avoid prof unless required.

Intimidating at first, but gets nicer as the course continues. Would have been lost if hadn't taken calc in high school, but the tests are fair and predictable. Do the work and pay attention. I got an A and am trying to take Calc 2 w/ him because he's so predictable.

Quite possibly the worst professor at Towson University. Maybe the world. Three people passed the semester I took him, and two of them got C-'s. Take professor Kim instead, you will learn more and have a better experience.

His class was very confusing. There were too many memorization techniques used. He taught us about 3 different ways to do certain problems instead of keeping it simple. He doesn't offer much help outside of class . LOTS OF HOMEWORK every single night! I wouldn't recommmend him if you aren't a math major. He will bore, confuse, and frustrate you!

Brilliant guy and fun! He really values homework so don't expect to pass if you aren't dedicated to every assignment. Great class if you're willing to work. He teaches the "meaning of math" rather than just memorization. I would recommend him for Math majors but not necesarily for Math 111.

Forget the lazy jerk*ffs below because Dr. O'leary is an awesome teacher and a totally cool guy. Always helpful and devoted to his students if you're willing to learn. You're worried about memorizing proofs and theorems....in CALC??? Go get a Mass Com. degree then jerky.

The best mathematics professor i have ever encountered in my entire carreer, and i've like most of them. The homework was long, but important, the only true way to learn math is to do it. Calc 2 sucks no matter who teaches it. Half your class will fail

He is a great teacher!!!! However if you are not willing to learn do not take him. Very enthusiastic about teaching and makes it fun and interesting and you forget how hard it is. I recommend you take. Beware there is group work involved.
