I love Prof. Winer! True, I disliked the graded weekly work: difficult quiz; discussion posts; tough readings; and mandatory attendance and in-class participation. That aside, he's one of the sharpest minds I've met. His articulateness and depth of knowledge are singular, and he's got an awesome soul. Gaining his wisdom is absolutely worth it.

Good breakdown of constitutional tests. Walks you through how the law developed over time. Beware of being called on; if your answer is phrased in any way different from how he would phrase it he will let you know IMMEDIATELY. Class participation grade was frustrating.

Comment:
The worst professor and class at Mitchell. Dream combination. Terrible method of instruction enforced by 33% of your grade being determined by inane things. Class shouldn't be 3 cr. I have nightmares of him saying "commerce clause." Book is absolutely useless. Use Google to teach yourself.

He is hard and he gives many quizzes straight from lectures. Quizzes are hard, very short time to choose the answer. Although attendance may be not mandatory, but mandatory to pass the quizzes or exams. It would be hard to pass without his lectures. But this forces you to learn.

Took him for Public International Law. The course content was quite dull but he did a solid job. The final was a bit incomprehensible and I am amazed I passed with a decent grade as I had no idea what I was writing on. He seemed quite fair in his treatment of students.

I am honestly amazed at how negative some of these reviews are. Yes, his classes require a lot of preparation, but I've never heard him be mean to a student or discuss his political beliefs. He is one of the best professors I've had and I look forward to going to his classes.

Took international public law with him and found this 2 credit course to be the hardest one ever. Would never recommend this professor and this class to anyone.

I agree with the previous comment that everyone gets a change to contribute, but you are chastized if you do not have the same extreme liberal world view as Winer. Not what education (opening of minds in my view) is about. Not promoted in his class.

A rigorous but very thorough instructor. Knows the material and really wants you to understand it. If you don't know the constitutional foundations to ad law coming in, you most certainly will at semester's end. His uncanny ability to squelch gunners in the classroom earns him bonus points with me. Everyone gets a chance to contribute.
