She acts and talks like a ditz. If you try to explain something to her or express concerns she doesn't comprehend what you are saying she just says "oohhhhhhhh okay !!! " and her "teaching" is ALL just her reading from a paper. She is nice though, just really ditzy.

Professor DeVera was great. She really cares about her students. If you show up to lecture and discussion you will do well in the class. It is not hard to get an A at all (a lot depends on your TA though.) I had very little interest in Asian American history and took the class as a gen ed. I am very happy with my decision.

I love Professor deVera! She's such a sweet lady, but has a horrible aim with her tendency to throw candy at your head! To get an A, you need to really take good notes and attend every single class. Finding a good study group also helps wonders, but overall, lots of work and don't expect an easy A if you slack off!

Professor de Vera is great. She goes out of her way to develop a personal relationship with every student in the class. I have had two courses with her, each with over 40 students and she knew everyone's name. Her exams focus not on facts but on interpretation and relevance. Also she gives you the exam questions before hand.

Prof. deVera was very kind, delivered (overall) clear lectures, was always willing to explain things to students who didn't grasp concepts, and was very knowledgeable about Asian American History. Great teacher, cheery disposition, I highly recommend taking her class as long as you have an interest in Asian American History.

Overly anxious but a horrible lecturer. Waste of time. Also, her assignments were ridiculous such as "Interview an Asian"...literally, that was one of them.

Disorganized, harsh and phony, there's no reason to take this class I can ever think of with de Vera teaching it. Just read Takaki's book for all you need to know. Why waste your time when there are better courses and better teachers?

PROF DEVERA WAS A VERY NICE PERSON, BUT A STRICT TEACHER. SHE BELEIVES THAT FAILURE IS THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN. IN FACT. THE PAPERS ARE GRADED VERY EXACTLY AND DEFINITE, WHILE THE CRITERIA INITIALLY REQUESTED, IS VAGUE AND OPEN TO INTERPRETATION. GO TO THIS CLASS IF U WANNA LEARN ABOUT ASIAN AMERICAN HISTORY, BUT AT THE COST OF YOU GPA.

This lady just p*sses me off. SO annoying to listen to. Bascially, just know everything and rewrite history, or else you are not putting in enough "effort". TA's are worthless, dumb, annoying, uppity, and just act like they know everything and you should too. Bad bad bad class. You will hate history after taking it with DeVera and the TA's. Run man

For an intro class, it was TERRIBLE! not what an intro class should be, especially history. She is so damn annoying and the TA's are all retarded and act like they know everything. Good luck getting a good grade and good luck trying to sit through one of her classes without wanting to kill her! Horrible waste of time and energy. Too much boring rdg

Class was graded entirely by the TA's (papers, participation, quizzes). I stopped going to lecture after discovering we wouldn't get tested on any lecture material. Her "laugh" is annoying as hell. Also, there was too much reading and the books were expensive :(

History is boring, but the class is easy. There is a lot of assigned reading, but no need to actually do it, or attend lectures. Just 3 papers and a quiz, attendence to discussions but no tests. Straight forward grading, and shes very helpful when asked for help.
