Comment:
Objectively not a good professor for the year 2018. All notes are on a chalkboard and tend to have connections to testable material at the most basic level, if at all. Does not use onq so it is similar to going to school before the internet. Class is also held in a room that is too small to accommodate the number of students enrolled.

funny dude but doesn't use onq, everything is on the chalkboard. not a hard prof but if you miss a class you have to rely on other peoples notes so make sure you get notes from people who actually take down everything or you may be screwed on the midterm lol

The guy's a beauty, but he doesn't let his fun personality get in the way of being a fair prof. Solid choice, make sure you pay attention and take notes. Also loved how he loves baseball.

Art is such a good guy. He is very clear in lecture and likes to prepare the class as much as he can for upcoming tests by doing problems with us. Basically, if you take notes and study them, you will do well in his courses.

Certified beauty. Definitely one of the best profs in Econ, I try to take as many courses with him as possible. You need to go to class to get the notes, but he is very clear and entertaining so it's worth it. Midterms/Tests/Exams are very similar to previous years.

A legend - funny, relaxed, plain language and knowledgeable at the practical level, especially economics of public policy related topics. Great for first timers. Marking was fine - relaxed by precise.

If you dont go to class or know someone who will give you lecture notes you will not pass. Need to memorize everything from lectures or you will not pass. It is most helpful if you know people who have taken the class before because midterm and final questions repeat a lot. Most of lecture is spent just copying notes from the board.

Everyone seems to enjoy Art Stewart because his exams tend to be carbon copied year after year, making his courses rather easy. Though, I personally find the man to be extremely rude when you go see him in person. He doesn't care about students in the slightest. Not to mention his lectures are extremely boring.

DO NOT take a seminar with Prof Stewart. I had him in second year for a few courses and he was great, but he is the worst seminar prof you could have. He gives absolutely no guidance, has cancelled quite a few individual meetings (the entire course I've had 2 ten minute meetings with him), and sends you to other profs whenever you ask anything.

While 212 had rather boring material and Professor Stewart was hardly available to help outside of class, it is an easy course and Stewart does a great job in lectures preparing you for what you need to know come exam time.

Comment:
Very displeased with Professor Stewart and this course as a whole. Instead of analyzing Canadian social policy from an economic perspective, the class is essentially a history of major Canadian social programs. While the lectures are well done, marking is all over the place and ambiguous and Stewart had a flippant attitude towards students.

Art teaches this course in a somewhat interesting manner, but the exams involve mostly regurgitation of what he said in lectures. He does give you a decent overview of Canadian social policies, and highlights some key perspectives which you wouldn't want to miss when doing policy analysis. Go to class and memorise everything and you should be fine.

One of the best professors I've had at Queen's. His lectures are clear and interesting, he answers questions really well, and he's a super nice guy. I missed class one time and he literally gave me his personal class notes to copy before the exam. If you go to class and ask questions when you're confused, you'll get 80+ no problem.
