A good prof, but old school as he doesn't rely on technology and has limited notes for the class to study from. He knows Canadian politics inside and out . There are very few grades throughout the term, so make every grade count! I feel like students who don't like him get one bad grade and feel like they're being treated unfairly as a result.

Extremely dry humour which most of the class unfortunately didnt appreciate. Not a tough marker but you do need to know your stuff. He doesnt post anything online so I would suggest recording lectures and supplementing your notes while studying for midterm/exam. Its time consuming but helps A LOT.

I took Immigration and Settlement in Canada and not being a strong essay writer struggled with getting good grades on my papers. But for pol 129 if you are a good to average essay writer and have a good understanding of Canadian History you will do very well. Also one of the only professors to make me genuinely laugh every lecture.

The course itself wasn't as bad as expected however Ross as a professor was worse. His "powerpoints" in class are very unorganized (no titles, subtitles, just a bunch of jot notes). I would say the textbook does a better job in explaining things and is less boring. His lecture style puts people to sleep. Says offensive things without realizing.

Comment:
Dr. Ross is old fashioned but not as bad as students described him in previous reviews. Once you go to lecture, read the textbook and make notes you'll do good. The only complaint I have is that there were only 3 evaluations; a midterm, an essay and then the final exam. He doesn't have specific criteria which makes this course difficult to get an A

He isn't a bad prof. He does say offensive things he doesn't realize is offensive. He knows politics well. His lectures are fairly understandable, but are still easy to get confused with his examples. He is nice. His tests are very fair and aren't a surprise. Essay was toughly marked, not by him, by a TA. Very monotone. Very boring. But not bad.

Comment:
He was the only professor available for this course. Few opportunities (3) for marks, which are all essays except for the midterm. Since it is a politics course, there is definitely going to be some sort of tension between the student's views and professor's. Overall, the entire course was unorganized, boring, and somewhat annoying to deal with.

This is a required course and he's the only Professor you can choose. Grade consists of a mid-term test (25%), an essay (35%) and a final exam (40%). Read your text and take good notes to help with final exam essay outline prep. Final verdict - It's a required course and a hard pill to swallow at times.

I am in social work and POL 101 and POL 102 with him are mandatory. For POL 101 he was decent, it was easy to follow and I got a B. POL 102 CAME AND EVERYTHING EXPLODED. His lecture notes were not useful at all, there was a lot of tension all semester and he was really hard to approach.

extremely rude and unclear. You can study so much for a test, using all the notes provided and do your own research along with the readings and STILL receive a 60% or less. Unfortunately no other profs were teaching the class so i was forced to take it with him.

He was okay for 101, then 102 came. He is always off topic and used the same exact midterm questions for exams. You can take it, if you're okay with that. Sometimes the questions and topics never even came up in any classes. Gets mad when you use your phone and show up late. I had to take it, but he was so boring.

Not the best prof to take the course with if you receive accommodations. Attendance is mandatory, lecture slides aren't posted and weekly readings aren't outlined on the syllabus rather a list of chapters covered will be provided in no particular order.

Unclear, and as most politics profs, biased. He's alextremely rude and disrespectful. I took his class a while ago when he still taught ecs. There is a reason the students petitioned against this class and changed it to another one. His sarcastic bigotry of the field was rude and disrespectful. He is an alpha male who tries to be "contemporary".

Dr. Ross taught a graduate course and gave participation marks between 2 and 5/10. The class participated a great deal. It was a huge let down. He kept promising us that he had excellent feedback for us but provided us very little. His marking didnt make sense as presentations with varying levels of effort/quality received relatively similar grades

If you don't take pages of notes that he puts on the board and doesn't talk about and can't find outside of class or in the textbook you will fail.

Great professor! Completely fair and a solid sense of humor. I used the textbook mildly to fill in blanks. But you do not need to read chapter by chapter to pass the course.

He's a good guy, but stern. As long as you don't mess around, you'll be fine in his class. He's old fashioned and doesn't post anything on D2L, so attending class is a must. This is a downside, but overall, I wouldn't be mad if I had him again. He's a fair marker from what I've experienced, so if you have him as a mandatory, don't be too worried!

Voice is uber dry, but he makes up for it with even drier humor. Put me to sleep several times, but then again we were in the Cineplex theater. As long as you take notes, review a bit before tests, and do the one assignment, you'll be fine. Don't bother with the textbook, he provides plenty of online sources. Internet is life.
