Avoid taking this teacher! He is very hard and unclear about assignments, but if you have to take him then make sure you notes. I would suggest on your laptop because he talks fast and you have to keep up. The textbook is very important! You have to read! I read for the midterm but didn't for the final and I didn't do as good on the final.

I really don't like him. He seems to enjoy making people feel stupid. He puts people on blast in front of the class, and is not at all personable. His reading assignments are pretty long, but not terrible. He really expects your life to be his class.

Great Person and Interesting Teacher. However, he is Anti-Capitalist and equates Free Market Capitalism with State Monopoly Corporatism which is totally wrong. He accepts the overwhelming authority of the state and is a firm supporter of Democracy which is basically Barbaric Mob Rule.

He is the worst Prof. on Staten Island campus. He expects your whole life to consist of reading the New York Times and his textbooks for the semester as if you have no ther classes or a life. The greatest professor at st. johns. A true scholar....His class is only difficult on people who don't care enough to do the work and don't pay attention in class. He makes every attempt to give students the opportunity to make up for bad test grades with news journals and papers. I have taken him 4 times and I would take him 40 more!

I think he is horrible. There is nothing you can do or say to be even close to right. He is close minded and treats his class as if they are purposely trying to do bad. There is a lot of work, but it isn't the work that is too much, it's the fact that you cannot do it well enough or up to his standards. He makes you feel stupid and enjoys it.

Dr. Layachi is probably one of the best professors at SJU. He is very versed in government and is known all over the world. He makes you work, but you actually learn! He is a noted author and very engaged in class with his students. He will take care of you if you show him that you are interested in what he has to offer you. Take him! Great man!
