Comment:
I agree with the above comments. You have to work very hard to even pull off a B in this course. But Prof. Loughton is very helpful and very approachable for asking questions. Doesnt use the textbook at all, draws figures on the board while talking. So you have to attend every single lecture and take notes. He is a fair marker and does transfer the weight of the midterm to the final exam if you do better on the final. Learnt a lot in his labs as he provides us access to labs outside of lab time.

The prof is good! But the course is hard, esp the labs! they will def bring ur mark down bc the dissections are hard. You need to work extremely hard to get a B in this course. Dont take it if you dont have to. Its hard!!! Prof is good, otherwise!

Very knowledgeable professor who definitely knows his stuff. His lectures can be a bit confusing at times but he is very approachable and is willing to try to clarify things. Attending lectures is a must doesn't since he doesn't use the textbook. Best way to get a good grade/study for tests is to do the sample questions he provides.

There are few biology profs of Dr. Loughton's caliber who still teach today. He gives very interesting mini seminars during lab and is very approachable. Words of advice: attend every lecture, sit near the front and you will learn a lot. He is a very reasonable marker (4-5 people got an A) and an incredibly influential man. Take this course.

Very smart & experienced. Clear notes with many drawings/diagrams on the board. In exams there are options of questions to choose from. If Exam better than midterm, midterm will be removed. HOWEVER, in grading, seems like he gives a random grade w/o checking facts. When asked, cannot explain why. VERY vague questions: requires pages for 1 answer.

If you listen carefully, and don't socialize so much, you will learn a lot from him. I found him to be very interesting.

Granted, he is a very intelligent person. However, it can be difficult for any student -- especially FIRST-YEAR students to glean any information from lectures and assigments that are disorganized, jargon-filled and consequently ill-explained.
