Comment:
Good teacher who obviously knows his material, however not very effective at communicating it beyond the classroom. ALL chalk and talk and (literally) only gives us 4 assignments to study with so past the midterm you know the answer to all the questions without doing them. DOES NOT prepare you for the final at all!!!!!

Bert Sommers is a great prof for Economics. I liked his problem solving techniques and the material he covers in class is crisp. you study whatever he discuss in class and you are good for a good grade. His evaluation is very tough. No partial credits for calculation errors. watchout for that.

It's embarassing to the program that he is teaching at the MBA level. He's a part time techer that collects as many classes as he can and automates his testing scheme so he can get paid to churn out grades. Harsh marker, works on autopilot, marks you on memorising instead of understanding. Avoid at all costs.

Good teacher, harsh marker. 25% of class got C as final mark incl students who got 90s in the mid term. Rarely gives A's, so your avg can hurt. I think he's embittered vs MBA students w/promising futures ahead of them while life has passed him by, so he takes us down w/harsh marking. Catches class by surprise w/tough final worth 70%.

He knows the topic, but he hasn't kept up w/ advances in tech. Writes notes by memory on the blackboard w/little formating; doesn't make notes available in electronic format. Expects you to memorise definitions. Tests are based entirely on how well you have memorized the material and can recite it back.

Very easy class. I took it in the summer and I thought that the teacher was very interesting. He takes attendance so make sure to be there often. There are only 2 assignments and they're very easy. If you find this prof difficult that's because you're not doing the work.

MBA STUDENTS SHOULD AVOID. Regardless of your mark, you will learn next to nothing in this course. NOTE TO SOMMERS: Memorizing definitions is not learning! It helps no one. He's an academic and I truly don't think he ever worked in an actual corporation before. Can not bring real world experiences into the classroom. Brings level of the MBA down!

He made the class interesting and presented the material in an easy way for us to understand. Some people don't like hi because he is very picky (ex.: Staple your assignments!). Just do what he asks, go to class and do the practice problems. The book is useless with him and if you don't understand go see him in his office. Very patient man.

People like him should be kicked out of school. If he doesnt like your face, get ready to see your grade go from a 90 to a 40 just because he will take points out for useless reasons.. btw, students are allowed to request that another teacher correct ur exams

Honestly, it's a joke. He gives you a practice package with assignments and midterms. If you do it, u'll easily get an A if u put in the needed effort. If you end up doing bad in this course, you might as well drop out because JMSB courses won't get easier than this.

PROS: Gives you mock tests, which are similar to the real ones. CONS: Goes quickly through examples without adequately explaining the steps he takes. Takes off marks if you don't show your calculations, even if you got the answer right. He doesn't let you leave the class, if you do he won't let you back in. The book is useless for the exams.
