Comment:
If you are taking 2020 with Quitslund, be prepared to be split into groups. The heaviest parts of your grade are connected directly to team-based learning. She did not teach most of the things covered in teams and you were expected to learn it outside of class. Her course is relatively simple, but this is coming from an English major. Be prepared.

very sweet lady, terrible professor. DO NOT TAKE CLASS. her papers are unnecessarily long, she rambles on and on about nothing. Team based learning, but no matter what answer your team chooses, you're wrong. Doesn't help when you need it, awful at explaining things, and her final is a joke. Would not recommend her.

Quitslund's class was easy and fun if you have a good group of people to work with. There were only two formal papers that had to be written. It's hard to focus when she talks and she's not the best at explaining some concepts. As long as you read what is assigned and take notes, her small tests are pretty easy.

If you're interested in the topic, this will be a breeze for you. Although there is a lot of reading, most of it is just poetry and plays, so they are interesting reads. Quitslund definitely knows her literature like the back of her own hand, she is a genius about it. "Group based Learning" in the class isn't as bad as it sounds. Overall good class

Awesome class, but be ready to think... a lot! This class forces you to explore your deepest and highest held truths. When Quitslund speaks, however, it is hard not to let your mind wander...

So I went into this class loving English, and considering doing it as a second major. I dreaded this class. First off, she contradicts herself. Second, she forces discussions and when someone finally gives in to make the 5 minutes of dead silence go away, she interrupts and condescends them. i DO NOT recommend this class. LEARNED NOTHING!

She's a very quirky woman who brings her wit to the classroom. The class is based around discussion, so participating in the conversation is crucial if you don't want to be bored. Make sure you get all of the materials because she relies heavily on them. She also says she doesn't care if you go to class, but she gives weekly quizzes on the material

Boring. I did not learn anything helpful in any degree during the class. Discussions seemed to be forced, not engaging at all. Waste of time.

Quitslund is one of those teachers that you need to have an interest in the subject material to enjoy her class. But she's witty and fun and she'll help you tons if you're not sure of what you need to do to make the grade.

Yes to the Spark Notes, yes to the crossword (if even that works), and yes to the complaints about weird grading. I did fine, the class isn't hard.

I can't imagine a better teacher or class format for this material. As long as you read and take advantage of her (complete, simple) study guides, an A is entirely possible.

Took a subject I had mild interest in it and slaughtered it. Asks questions, attempts to generate discussion, but always interrupts the students to voice her own opinions. Feedback on graded papers includes criticism for supported theories she didn't agree with. Plus, it was absolutely impossible to both stay awake and pay attention.

She's very nice and open to discussion, but constantly rambles. We have easy quizzes every Wednesday over the text and I pass just by reading the Spark Notes. I usually bring a crossword to class to stay awake.

She seems like she'd be open to all discussion, but in actuality is not. She rambles on and on, making it soooo difficult to even stay awake and understand anything. She doesn't understand the meaning of open discussion and mainly lectures the whole class period. Grading is also strange/sparse
