Expects us to to do everything. Does not give a clear rubric and does not have give enough practice with concepts. Everything is theoretical. Expects us to read 2-3 chapters per week with each chapter being 50 pages long.

Comment:

Very knowledgeable about Cyber Security. His class/lectures could use a face-lift. It seems he teaches with the preconception that you are proficient at coding. Some of the hands on pen testing we did was fun but we did not do much of that. The tests were the hardest I have taken in any class, it consisted of Coding and check all that apply.

The class was not easy but this guy absolutely knows what he is talking about. If you have any interest in computing security at all you need to take a class with him. The tests can be tricky if you don't study, but generally they are taken straight from the homework.

Get ready for a course where every assignment has no rubric. Most of the class is subjective so you figure out afterwards if you screwed up. Also he doesn't like other options its either you get it or you fail. Don't take this course or teacher if you don't have to.

Comment:

Really enjoyed Chu's course, learned a lot. Be aware that you will have to do a lot of independent research and studying if you aren't already familiar with the concepts. Write-ups for assignments are a bit longer than I'd like, as the assignments can take a while to do even before writing 14 pages about what you did.

What can be said that hasn't already? Rarely available for help, relies heavily on the textbooks, only has a few assignments throughout the semester. You can do well if you take the time to figure everything out but don't look to him. Teaching is his secondary goal. He's got other priorities.

Worst Teacher that I have ever had. He is not unorganized. Seems uninterested in actually helping students with his class unless, you ask a lot, seems to want to make the TA do everything, does not teach you enough things to do his homework or pass his tests, it is like teaching yourself mostly.I would succeed a with a different teacher.

Horrible class. Took my C and ran. Only explained concepts at a high level. For example, explained asp.net using flowcharts and modeling, but never actually showed anyone how to program in the language, i.e. structure. Then expected a complete project on it. Ridiculous.

Totally unprepared for class. Unstructured course and on the fly teaching. Not very worthwhile unless you are able to spend 40+ hrs/week in the VASA lab. Students aren't provided necessary information and can only find out through other students or "hear say". In short, he sucks and I can't believe he holds his status.

I had this guy a few years ago. Most people failed the class... badly. Midterm had 2 questions, and I don't think anybody got it right. When that many students fail, the professor did not successfully "teach".
