This class is easy! i don't understand why there are so many negative comments. There are quizzes which are easy if you read the textbook and as for the vocab quizzes, just memorize what she tells you to memorize and you will get a 100%

I don't want to continue with Chinese anymore, she makes it very difficult to learn. She's nice but she doesn't really care much if you improve or not. There's a lot of work involved and the blog thing is just ridiculous. She said she MAY or MAY NOT mark it but she encouraged us to update it...

Seems like she doesn't care about teaching anymore. Her textbook is not that great and kind of useless. She's nice but she doesn't seem to care if we know the pronunciation or not, which is the most important part of the Chinese language. I liked Jia Fei much better.

This is a slightly-better-than-average course. Billie teaches clearly and is helpful. However, getting a perfect score on a written assignment is harder than wringing water from stone. I feel her expectations are too high. Had my Chinese been perfect, I would not be taking this course in the first place. An A or an A+ seems to be out of reach.

The oral exam could be very difficult for those who have difficulty in listening her pronounciation. Also,there is no opportunity to practice this by yourself. She requires high level of chinese literacy prior to this class. It is quite unfair to whom has no or less chinese background.

I took her class. I felt the way she teaches was unclear. I cannot understand why every one must buy her home-made $35 textbook.I reather prefer buying textbooks published by universities.It's much more useful.I didn't see any point of taking this class to improve chinese. She was too picky, never give you full mark for any assignment.

An absolutely great prof! Very passionate about teaching and very helpful too! She also shares a great deal of her life experiences with traveling around the world and it totally made me interested to travel to China to learn more Chinese!

She is a good teacher. Very helpful, in class quizes are easy if you study for it. The Chinese book didn't have a lot of chapters which is good. She does pick on students for answers in class, but she isn't mean if you don't know the answer. It is fun, class is always interesting. Presentations are present fotr this class.

I HATE HER! I used to like Mandarin that's y I took it till this level but her attitude changed the way I feel towards Mandarin. She's very picky and unfair. Stay away and go take it from other colleges. I wish i could punch her in the face! hate this prof, sfu should get rid of her.

I took a few classes w/ her & I have to say that I've never hated any prof this much.She pretends to be a goddess but if she hates u, u r doom. Me, never done anything wrong, attend every class on time, done all my works, I swear w/ my own life, but she just hated me. She will try to pick on me. All I can say, she plays favoritism, so I was unlucky

if you have a knack for languages, then this class is for you! Billie is really fun and warm hearted. She designed the class herself, I found the layout very organized and systematic. The end of the class is challenging...you may want to find chinese friends for help!

I took this course simply it is too asy. She gave higher marks to please students. Her pronunciation seems not standard Chinese, cus it is different from what i heard from tapes. how can she teach at the university level???
