Really nice guy. Tests are hard and he tested almost entirely from his notes, not the book so go to class, and def's had to be WORD FOR WORD. But he's approachable and will help if you try.

He gives powerpoint presentations on how equations are derived, and then never explains what they're for or how to use them. You're in luck if your major requires abstract knowledge, but God help you if you actually want to do physics in regards to the real world. His answer to most questions is 'Look it up in the book'. At best, he's a good TA.

His plan is for everybody that takes his class to FAIL. i would say DONT EVER! take him... but chem 113 is not being offered anymore and he's retiring after this semester. Save your SOUL. Im repeating this even though the last guy said it. Withdrawing was the best choice I've ever made in terms of classes. He is a monster and cannot teach. Take 271/272 because there is no way the chem dept. will let him teach that.

unless you are into being weeded out of whatever you need chem113 for, don't take boyd. he does not do a good job of explaining the key concepts, nor let you know when he's changing subject or what subject he's covering. his tests are impossible unless you did all the hw and supplementary handouts+know nomenclature and his definitions of everything

He was fine, you just need to adjust yourself more than normal for this teacher. I got a B+ in his class by just looking at his old exams and redoing the hw. Just learn how to get around his "bad teaching"

The most difficult, most unfair, and WORST professor I have ever had. Couldn't care less if the students pass or fail or even understand the material. It is a hard course as it is and he does not curve whatsoever. He refuses to tell the class what the averages on the tests are. Taking this course with him is torture. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Boyd is by far the worst professor I have had. I attend EVERY lecture and leave felling like I learned nothing. Any material that I do know from the class I have taught myself. He offers no real extra help, and is VERY unclear in teaching. His exams are extremely difficult-our past two averages were a 45% and 50% on exams. AND HE DOESNT CURVE!

Comment:

Boyd is a good teacher but the class itself is very challenging. You need to go to class to do well and keep up. Boyd mostly goes over problems but if you attend all the classes and look over the book his lectures make sense and are helpful. He teaches towards his tests so pay attention he may give you hints.
