Dr. Benoit is a phenomenal instructor and researcher. She is a credit to the department and brings years of field experience and research scholarship into the classroom with ease. Her course is weighted well and very structured. She is a fair. grader, but you won't fool her. One of the few SOCI profs that expose you to the processes of research.

Comment:

Cecelia is one of the best profs I've had. Such a sweetie and has really clear lectures, posts lecture slides before class and is very clear about what's going to be on exams. If you study the terms she gives you for the articles you'll do fine on the exams, she's very fair, and her marking for assignments is fair too. Love her!

I enjoyed Cecilia's class. Her lectures mimicked the corresponding textbook chapter and she's very approachable. In-tutorial writing assignments were annoying, but overall fairly simple course to get into.

The only class that I have ever dropped, because her material was just so confusing. Lectures were never matched up with the textbook, & tutorials were mandatory (though I thought they were useless). Very boring class; Don Fetherson also teaches this course; wish I had known so that I could have transferred to that one.

Really nice person, good first year teacher. Approachable, friendly and willing to help anyone. Gives bonus questions/tutorial. Was willing to cut material to have a review block which was generous. Lessons can be dry. Attendance is fairly important but textbook is not (though it would inhanse your understanding). Always willing to help.

Very friendly and approachable person. Her lectures are fairly organized and basic; every class is taught by power point slides. However, it can be boring as lectures and tutorials are not very engaging. Not easy to get a good mark in tutorial assignments and multiple choice exams can be challenging and tricky.

She's a really nice person but a terrible teacher. She does care but she doesn't approach it in the right way. She doesn't make sense in her lectures and your grade is based on tutorials (my tutorial teacher was AWFUL), midterm, and final. No written work. No recommended.

Pretty good prof. TA's were helpful and gave good feedback on assignments. Assignments were easy; I am terrible at English and got a B and an A+ on the essays. Midterm and final are really easy. Just go to class and read all important material for the exams and you should get at least an A-.

An okay teacher. I really didn't enjoy the tutorials - mostly small group discussions and watched pointless videos. That time and 5% could have gone towards i clickers or something and would have been better. Assignments weren't bad, but the tutorial leaders grade them and the grading was iffy at times. Exam was easy though, just read the textbook.

She is an okay teacher. Was really interesting in the beginning but after attending more and more classes her voice becomes monotone. The tutorials are worth 5% of your grade which sucks because they are the biggest waste of time (mostly watch youtube). Out of all of my classes, this is the only one that managed to put me to sleep.

Not a great Prof, could have been WAY better. Boring lectures, bad (in my case) TA's. She's definitely one of those Prof's who are really only in it to do thier research. I'd rather sleep then attend class... Assignments are beneficial, marking was not great. All in all... I would try to avoid taking her class.

Cecelia is such a great prof! such a nice person and so helpful if you talk to her outside class. She really wants the students to do well. Class discussions and papers were interesting as well. I would definitely recommend her!
