Really great book choices. Attend class to get used to the way she thinks and wants things explained so you know how to write for the midterm and final. There's no essay, but 6 in-class writing assignments (quizzes) and one 10-minute oral presentation. Pretty easy class, nothing to really stress out about.

Incredible book choices. She's a little offbeat and quirky, but it makes class all that more interesting. 6 in-class quizzes, three questions each, plus a midterm and a final. She drops the lowest quizz. Class can be a little boring, but you read great literature and discuss a lot of philosophy. Interesting enough to take her again.

I've taken her for two classes and I loved them both. 19th Century European Lit was my favorite though. It's an easy class and worth it to take. She is the nicest person ever and she really cares about her job and the works she teaches. She chooses the best texts too, ive kept a few of the novels shes assigned. Worth it!

This class was very boring--other students fell asleep, watched tv on their computers and tablets, & I found it a struggle to pay attention. She is repetitive in manner that does the information a disservice. It's an easy A if you read and show up, but you're sometimes better off reading the Wikipedia or Sparknotes summary than the actual text.

Really sweet teacher that really wants to get her students interested in the material. I like the books she chose and all you need to do to pass the class is read them. Straightforward quizzes, midterm, and final based on the readings.

Mrs. Edson is a very kind woman with an intense passion for African culture and its history. The class is more like a book club than a college course. Her quizzes are straight forward and simple if you've read the novels, and her midterm and final are not difficult if you pay attention to what she asks for. I learned a great deal about Africa :)

Boring but good attitude. Doesn't really lecture.Listen to her comments. She knows stuff.Be clear and give many details to get full marks on quizzes. Short oral presentation. Focus on the language in the exams like she did in class. Pay attention to what she says instead of your feet and it's an A.(Occasional crossword puzzles don't hurt though)

Worst prof I've had in 4 years. Failed to explain what she wanted on the midterm, then gave them back 3 days before the final. Only then did we know what she wanted on the test. She is so scatter brained, you never know what the hell she is talking about, and I don't think she much knows either. 2 in-class essays, 5 short answer quizzes on reading.

Very nice woman, dedicated to making sure her students do well. The class is set up like a book club, which can get a little boring, but it's usually interesting. There are weekly quizzes, but they're VERY simple if you've done the reading. There is no paper, and the midterm & final are straightforward. Just do the reading, and you'll do fine.

Surprisingly interesting class- I looked forward to coming and discussing the books. Books were interesting too...I actually wanted to read for once! Easy teacher, very sweet....she does make you do an oral presentation which I HATED. I have anxiety. The one thing about her that irks me is she is always late and keeps you late. Get a watch!

Easy class. Like a book club. Read before class, and discuss reading in class. Like a book club. There are quizzes, you know when they are and in order to pass them you need to have read. I enjoyed most of the books. She is really sweet and selects books that come from around the world which makes it interesting! Easy A if you commit to the reading

BORING! The class is really easy, it's like joinging a book club! She's a really nice lady but her classes are miserable! There's no focused curriculum, you just read and discuss. She gets distracted easily and there are often silences in class. She's REALLY nice but I hated her class; it was just to boring!

Prof. Edson was extremley nice and motherly and deeply interested in what she discussed in class. Class would get pretty boring sometimes, there were a lot of awkward silences while she spoke about the novels and the lectures became repetitive. Overall, good readings, boring class sessions, wonderful person.

Very motherly and down to earth, doesn't really lecture, just guides the class discussions and prompts participation. Interesting reading choices. A 3-question reading quiz on each book but if you read it, you will have no problem. 2 tests + 1 (5 minute) presentation on something from one of the readings. I would take her again, I loved her.

Easy class, a bit boring sometimes though. Class is all about discussion, each student has to give one presentation on a section of a novel read in class. She likes anything as long as it sounds intelligent. Quizzes on each book, easy as long as you read. One midterm and final, both are set up the same-short essay. Really nice teacher!!

Very tough grader but very nice lady. She is the ONLY SANE ONE in the French department. Benkov and Schorr are unscrupulous, ignorant and mean-spirited, boy am i glad I stood up to their sordid and immoral way of doing things. Thank God for courage! You go Laurie!
