You have to really like the subject to do well in his class. I was really into it, so I did fairly well. But if you don't like what you're learning I think his lectures would get pretty boring pretty fast. He was really really helpful though, loved to hear input, and wasn't biased about it.

I get really frustrated with Hastings. He makes things much more difficult and confusing than they need to be or should be. Tests are impossible. Class is excruciatingly boring, even though I'm fairly fascinated with the topic. Bottom line, he is a highly unrecommended professor.

Was VERY interested in the class when signing up. Awful prof. Always rushed things. More concentrated on covering as much as possible rather than helping students learn the material. Exams are difficult. Questions are very worded. My gpa is 3.65 and i had to withdraw to save my gap.

Very boring class, 5 exams, impossible to study for very broad questions."pop" quizzes,an event paper that was hard to connect with the class, Mono-toned and hardly helped or stop to ask if any one had questions. HIGHLY recommend NOT taking this class!

This class was frustrating. BORING lectures. The exams are difficult to study for. The final essay is over ANYTHING covered in class,throughout the entire semester and is very detail specific. No matter how much studying I did, it was not enough to earn more than a B average on exams. Hastings was not helpful even when I went to office hrs.

This class is impossible. I worked and worked and talked to prof. Hastings one on one a lot and still couldn't do manage a decent grade. Don't take this class. Exams are wordy and the questions are very unclear.

Class consists of lectures and random pop quizzes. The exams are tricky in that the questions are long and wordy. Definitely study A LOT prior to exams. Grade is based off 5 exams, one university event and random quizzes. Hastings is a nice guy, but the class can get boring and requires a lot of work for a 100 level class.

He is a decent guy, tries to be funny, occasionally is. He says you need the book, NOPE. But, he also says that the questions on exams are straight forward, NOPE. You MUST study a lot which is sort of lame for a U.P. Very date/time period intensive on the exams. Overall, i F-ing hated the class but you should get an A/B if you come to class.

Dr. Hastings is a great teacher. He is always willing to help. He basically begs for people to go to his office hours. Some of these student comments are not accurate. If you slack you won't do well but if you try you will do just fine. Don't be a lazy. Also, don't buy the book. I never read a page and got an A+. He curves grades too!

Unless you are interested in archeology, this class is pretty dang boring. I took it for a UP. It's boring, but it's really not that difficult. You don't need the book, even though he says to read everyday. You can do fine without it as long as you go to class everyday and get the notes. Exams can be pretty tricky, you definitely need to study.

Very good class if you have any interest at all in archaeology. Hastings is a good guy and he means really well, but he can get very boring and monotone. The book was the biggest waste of money in my college career to date. The tests are simple and it's very easy in all aspects. I would recommend this U.P. to anyone.

Dr. Hastings was a funny guy and the class was easy. You do NOT need the book! Don't buy it.. but you do need to go to class everyday. As long as you copy his notes, you'll get an A. He doesn't put anything on Blackboard and never returns quizzes or papers until almost the last week of class so that's annoying and hard to keep track of your grade.

Wonderful teacher and class. Very easy to pass if you go to class. DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOKS for the 'assigned readings' I never bought a book and ended up with an A. Hastings makes the class fun, even though it is an 8:00am class. Highly recommended.
