Maddren is the most approachable guy. No question is out of reach. If you don't understand something, he is very helpful taking you step by step through it. Not alot out of class work, hw is exactly what to expect on the tests. Take notes, do the hw, and you get an A. Outside of class, he knows so much about music you learn just by talking with him

Prof. Maddren is the best! He's very friendly and answers all questions students have, so don't hesitate to ask. Prepares you for all quizzes and tests, so you know exactly what to expect. I took his class during the Winter and really enjoyed this course. If you guys need this class to complete your General Education DO TAKE!

Amazing teacher. Even though he is a professor, he seems like a fun guy. His class was very inspirational to me. Expect homework often and NOTATION MATTERS (you'll understand that later). The good thing is that he gives 6pts of ec on both the midterm and final and an extra 20pts in general, with a total of 32pts of ec.

Learning music requires lots of review. However, he makes it very clear and he will answer any questions you have. He gives plenty of extra credit and is very understanding. He works with his class. If you want to take his class, pay attention to what he says, take notes, do the hw & review them every day and you'll pass with no problem.

He makes jokes and laughs at it. If you are not a music major or haven't had any lessons in music you are not going to understand them. Also,if you haven't taken any music lessons you will be lost. He teaches the class as if everyone understands. I will never recommend this class to anyone!!!!

Took for Winter 2016. Three tests, six in class assignments, four concert reports and a final. He gives you a study guide before every test, study that and you can't fail the class. He's easy to approach, kind and very geeky which is great. He was sort of like a dad figure type of teacher. If you miss a test, you're allowed to make up one of them.

He's a really, reallllllly good teacher, expect to study a lot. We have 4 tests and 4 concert reports. He gives practice tests which help a lot! He's very patient with students and he's a very nice guy ! It's not an easy A but its duable for sure ! If you're not a music fan, take him, he makes it easier for you to understand what's going on.

Prof. Maddren is such an inspiring music teacher. There are only 5 quizes, a midterm and final, and honestly for someone who needs it for general Ed, he is very nice offering extra credit- even on the midterm and final he gives extra credit. Class is fun and easy to pass, try it out! (Textbook is optional)

I took this class in the summer. Chauncey makes the class a breeze. He gives study guides and let's you know exactly what he expects. He is EXTREMELY patient with students even if they ask the stupidest questions. I would recommend his class.

He's very down to earth. He sympathizes with the problems music majors have. The class is kept lighthearted and silly but serious about material. This is good because some people are terrified of singing. This easygoing atmosphere keeps it a little easier to handle. Laughter really is the best tool to keep students awake in an 8am class.

Awesome professor. I've taken him for musicianship 1, 2, and 3. This class easily has more fun than any other class I've had. Really, there was uproarious laughter every day. Assignments are a few simple melodic and harmonic dictations, and the occasional singing or clapping exercise.
