Comes out guns blazing with her political views (very far left) and god help you should you say anything to disagree. Plays favorites and is way harsh to the ones she doesn't like. Lectures are UNBEARABLE! Not only does she whisper but she dose nothing but drones on and on. Limited knowledge on the subject I had her for. Thank god she's retiring.

Many people don't like Mathews because her lectures can be boring but she really knows what she is talking about and teaching. If you ever need help with anything outside of the classroom she is so great to go to and takes concerns seriously and to heart.

I thought this was gonna be an easy elective course because it was intro, but I had more assignments in this class than my 300 level classes. Tests arent from the notes so you have to read the book. Have to do volunteer work and if you arent able to do that, you have to write an extensive term paper and a paper about interview with social worker.

She is a really nice lady, however the test is from the textbook test banks and she doesn't even lecture about stuff from the book. Class is pointless, but you have to go for attendance purposes...

I really think Professor Mathews could be less reactive(negative and sometimes harsh) in her responses to agendas and assisgnments. She has her pics of the litter and it shows. Personal statements to demean a students potential is not very supportive or what I would call "using good social work skills" Its time to retire and allow for the new SW

UGH! The frustration! Why come to class when lectures are pointless? Just read the book and bring something else to do while in class she wont talk about anything you can learn from in class. Not much help on what to study for tests either. Nice lady, but terrible instructor, seems like a trend in the social work department at CNU.

Next year seniors, take her for field! None of the other professors explain things as clearly and are as supportive of you in your field placement. Mathews' field students are more prepared and teach the other students how to complete assignments!

I love her! She's the best professor in the department. She can be boring at times because her voice is so sweet and soft. She gives the best advice on practice skills and how to talk with clients. Oh, and if you read the book and actually study for the exams, they are not hard!

Had her for SOWK 260 and she's my advisor and I think she's the best teacher in the social work dept. Her lectures are clear and interesting. She's the best advisor, too. She maps out an exact plan for you follow which helps out tremendously.
