Most inspirational professor I've ever had, he makes you think harder about the issues. He had an incredibly high standard for himself and his students. Wish there were more professors like him.

I took 4 econometrics classes w/ Hazilla in the '90s, 1 at the Master lvl & 3 at the PhD lvl.Haz method was one that pushed the student to go beyond and behind one single txtbook, work the details, the math and stats involved in the topics covered. The outcome was that one really moves to the next level of understanding and mastering of the subjects

Mike Hazilla was an extremely kind man and an extremely bright and cool person who was my faculty advisor. Mike died at 64 of a rare debilitating virus . I am an MD at a wall street firm for those of you that think he was anti-capatilism, econ is tough, either you get it or you dont. To Mike I say, thank you very much and god speed. thanks, Jon Gib

Avoid him if you can. He's not a bad guy, but he's not a good teacher. He expects a lot of prior mathematical knowledge, despite the fact that there is no mathematics prereq. Very hands off style, will only give you the basics and expect you to expand from there. Exams are brutal, but he is somewhat lenient with grades. I haven't learned much.

Professor Hazilla is a brilliant man. Taking the class first seemed a bit daunting, but he knows its difficult. He is very open to discussion and opinions. There is a large paper at the end, but it is easy. If you really want to learn something and put a little bit of effort in, take his class

This guy has issues. His teaching ranges from the extremely mathematical and hard to understand micro concepts to the extremely off topic 30 page research paper at the end of the semester. He's very condescending and doesn't like people contradicting him. My advice, don't take him, or if given no other choice, just wait till next semester.

Prof.Hazilla in real terms is not a 'tough' professsor, however his teaching style is different than every other teacher i've ever had, and this can make his class difficult. If you listen to what he is saying, everything is accurate and does make sense, you have to be able to understand the terms he uses. i.e. the same way you study a textbook.

This class is basically all about finding the vertex of a parabola in various contexts. As long as you understand that, all the math starts to become easy. Yes, he's hard, but intermediate micro is supposed to weed out people from the major. I don't know if I would recommend him, but I wouldn't actively dissuade someone from taking him.

Prof. Hazilla is the best professor I have ever had. The things he discusses with us in class are eye-opening and are things that everyone should learn about - he's changed the way that I think about economics and its impact on the world and its population as a whole.

This man is brilliant. You will have the best convos in his class. His tests are hard but as long as you show up, participate, and put in some effort, you will get an A and learn a lot in the process. the class will completely change your prospective on everything.

Dr Hazilla is a man misunderstood. Nevertheless, do not expect TLC. He didn't have office hours, but let you call him at home. His tests are very hard and his take home final is difficult. He doesn't respond well to anything that may resemble criticism. He does understand his field and has some interesting stories. Probably shouldn't teach anymore Be ready for A LOT of math.

Stay far far away from this man. He is a black hole of fun. Aside from reducing Economics to nothing more than graphs, he talks about his opinions as if they are the god-given facts, when they are truly nothing more than his ramblings. I didn't believe the ratings on here before I took his class, didn't think it could be that bad. It is, and worse.

He made micro overly complicated and when he actually gave lectures rather than discussing his 30 page take home tests, he said the same thing over and over again.

Wow, I'm not even sure where to start. From his arrogance, to his socialist propaganda, to his pig-headishness when it comes to other people's opinions, Hazilla is the worst. I did alright in the class, even after my 37 page paper, and I am still upset that we even let him teach at the school. Stay away, you can do so much better at AU.

Not interested in teaching you economics. Would rather teach you that capitalism is flawed. Entirely unapproachable and condescending. Made me pay for a 100 dollar textbook that was completely unused.

Arrogant and condescending. Acts like you're stupid even when you answer right, which you normally need to be telepathic to do. You learn nothing about how markets work. Can't explain math and spends most of class talking about policy that relates little to micro. The many needed books are good, but not worth a 30 page paper and over $100.
