Professor Joseph is an expert in his field and seems to forget that most people don't know as much as he does. 6 tests (2 part finals). He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. He is very picky on the short answer questions. Only 5 homework assignments, which aren't bad. Tests are difficult though. Good luck.

I really enjoyed Professor Joseph's class! His lectures are really amazing, and you can tell he really enjoys the subject. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities!!! I cannot stress this enough. All you have to do is watch a documentary in the planetarium once a week and if you do well on the tests you can practically blow off the final.

Exams are challenging, but he usually gives a curve. The sample exam questions that are in my courses vary greatly from what is on the exams. I took this class over the summer, therefore everything was accelerated. He offers a lot of easy extra credit points to make up for the difficult exams.

Hardest class I have EVER taken. We have units we go over for each test and does not include everything in the study guide or goes over a different unit before we even have the previous test. He got mad when people were going to the bathroom & he is precise on short answer questions: I used "simplistic" instead of "simple" and he marked me wrong.

One of the hardest classes ever. Had 5 tests that contained so much information it was almost impossible to everything. So many people failed this class, as the tests are so hard. He does give A LOT of extra credit opportunities tho, that's how I passed mine

Just show up and pass the tests and you will do well. If you are not a great test taker do not take this class. Loved the content but the Prof. has not social skills. 6 tests, he drops the lowest grade. If you are not a good test taker do not take this class. 5 H.W's. If you study, you will do great. His P.P presentation's are really great.

This professor is absolutely amazing! He's an expert in his field and is always very willing to answer questions and help students outside of class. His tests are challenging, but as long as you study handouts and take advantage of the study guides and sample questions then you will be fine. Fascinating class and lectures! Highly recommend!

Yes, his tests are hard and he's a bit of a tough grader, but his online study guides are AMAZING. Seriously, utilize them and print them out before each test and you'll be fine. Offers weekly extra credit. Extremely passionate about Astronomy & likes sharing discussions about it with students. Lectures are Powerpoint with cute graphics & cartoons.

His lectures are very long and somewhat boring, but sometimes he tells you information that you will need on the test, that will not be explained on the powerpoint. He hates any type of distractions, so no talking/noise or going to the restroom in his class. He tries to be funny every now and then.

Even though the subject matter of astronomy is interesting in itself, you must really pay attention to what he says. He definitely knows his stuff, but sometimes he can go on a power trip and assume you know the particular answer to some things. Do not fall asleep or be late. He will dock points off. YouTube Astronomy Crash Course and you will pass

I love Dr. Joseph! He's a brilliant dude! I took him for both AST 1002 & AST1022L, both of which were a lot of fun. He explained the content really well & the handouts he posts are very helpful. He goes out of his way to make each student a progress report almost weekly & offers a lot of EC. Overall his class has inspired me to pursue Astronomy.

I think this class was a bit harder than we expected but it was still a lot of fun! Dr. Joseph is great. He and Bob keep things interesting. There's no textbook or homework. Labs are stand-alone with 2 quizzes and 2 practicals. This is the coolest lab I've ever taken but you CANNOT miss class or be late. If you're prone to, take something else.

I took his AST 1003 course and it was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. As long as you attend class, pay attention, and study for tests you will do fine. he offers many extra credit opportunities as interesting videos you can watch in the planetarium, which is pretty cool. He is a good teacher who knows his stuff!

Tests are impossible to pass, but he always gives curves because of it. Very confusing and "select the best choice answer" type deal. Good sense of humor but speaks 36482736482736 words per minute. Knows what he's talking about, ask if you have qs. extra credit is 3 points for a 40-90 min video, be respectful and stay on his good side.

Was excited about this class before I entered. Tests are a lot more difficult than I anticipated and no projects, group work, environmental studies, or interaction. I leave disappointed. Extra credit in 40 minutes videos worth 3 points each are not enough to help. Felt dull when it should feel exciting. Can't read his personality.

While Joseph is an earnest man, his class was one of the most painful I took at SPC. While he seems enthused about his subject, he is unfortunately not very good. High school quality, and his tests often include pointless details you need to memorize simply for the sake of it. Very little class interaction. While he posts study guides, NO review.

Universe: The Infinite Frontier. FOCUS MOSTLY ON STUDYING THE HANDOUTS, ALSO TAKE SOME NOTES IN CLASS TO RELATE TO THE MATERIAL BETTER. REALLY interesting class! Joseph is a bit introverted but has a sense of humor and is usually in his office available for questions.

Its a neat subject and the power points were very interesting. How ever, be ready to study. All his exams are hard since he puts little details into them and you pretty much need to answer verbatim. He takes this class VERY seriously so expect to devote a lot of time to this course. He's kind of on a power trip as well. Strict with leaving early.
