Total of three tests, open book and open note. Felt confident when taking the tests but then scored very poorly. Extremely frustrating. Normally I'm an A student but got a C in this class.

Comment:

Showing up to class is imperative to understanding the material. He will call upon you to answer homework questions, so make sure you always do EVERY single one. This also helps you prepare for the 3 big exams. Expect to spend 3-4 hours a week of studying outside class. He is a fair grader, and if you put in the effort you will do well.

Comment:

One of the best professors teaching one of the hardest courses in the accounting curriculum(Tax 2 in my opinion). Outside of the CPA exam, the ACCT 6520 Course was the hardest I have taken. I also took this in summer school because it was my last course.

Very poor professor. He reads strictly from the powerpoints which are very vague. Tax is a hard course and he makes it extremely hard. He gives a ton of HW problems that he expects you have to done by next class and randomly calls on you for participation. He's a very tough grader and grades only come from the 3 test and class attendance.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROF. Very limited and vague illustrations and explanations of the concepts. Flies through the material, reads off a powerpoint for lecture that does not include much information, and then assigns loads of questions for homework that leaves you with one big question mark. Tax is already hard and he makes it harder!

Professor Langstraat is very knowledgeable about tax. He will help you if you take the effort to go talk to him one on one. His exams are tough to probe how much you are able to comprehend and understand the material. This class requires you to understand the why of everything ( which is how it should be). I highly recommend him to tax lovers.

Be prepared to teach yourself tax. Vague notes given to you, then the next class your expected to have a dozen long problems done. Calls on you for participation points, attendance mandatory (gives two points a day). I wish I could of taken someone else!

He's a nice enough guy but I personally did not like the way he teaches. He would go through new material on a Monday and expect us to have the long, difficult homework completed on Wednesday. He randomly calls on students to answer homework.. This is how you get the participation grade. He is the only person teaching it unless you take it online.

I took Dr. Langstraat for ACCT 7310. The amount of work is time consuming, but overall an easy course. There were 3 exams, homework writing assignments (worth 20 points each), and a tax research paper (worth 100 points for draft and 100 points for final paper). Dr. Langstraat was extremely polite and helpful.

The hard thing about this class is that the tests are multiple choice, so you can do the whole problem correct and make a small mistake, and the answer will be wrong (?'s were 5 pts. each I think). So, make sure you do the homework and really understand the book material. The homework covered in class is the most helpful thing, so go to class!

Good teacher. Promotes networking along with teaching Tax. Didn't really like Tax before, but now I really enjoy it. He also makes funny faces, and likes to talk about sports.

Excellent teacher. Do the homework, *attempt* to answer the question if he picks on you, and he'll explain the entire problem. The exam questions are the just about the same as the answers he gives in class. It's a COLLEGE TAX COURSE, so unless you're a CPA it may be a good idea to actually go to class and study.

Nivce guy, but an awful teacher. You won't learn anything from him in class, except perhaps how to network with others in order to get a copy of the previous semesters' exams. Avoid and take Malloy, who will actually teach you the information.

Prof Langstraat is a great teacher. If you think otherwise, then that is crazy. Tax is a hard subject, if you wanted an eaay A- then don't take tax! I would take Langstraat again and again.

Comment:

Going over homework answers the entire class didn't help me learn anything. He doesn't provide explanations behind them, so it became "teach yourself at home" and "get berated about your wrong answers in class". If you prod him for a better explanation, he brushes you off or rushes through it (either way he didn't illustate any concepts properly)
