Comment:

Craig's class made the biggest difference in my growth as an artist of all the classes I took at AAU. Not only did I get over my fears of drawing human faces and hands, but I learned all the lessons of value and shading and form that my Analysis of Form class had failed to teach me. I would not be the artist I am today without Craig's class.

He tries to make sure people are on the same page. He does have his own technique he wants you to use at first but is open if you find your own. His lectures are a bit long but packed with so much interesting information and he makes up for it with hour long poses. He can be unfunny at times, but not usually and recommends great textbooks.

Be prepared to work and learn. If you are the party type of student you will have a hard time passing this class. Learned a lot from this guy. One of the best instructors in AAU in his own rights.

Craig thinks he knows a lot more than he knows. The grades he gives are inconsistent with the syllabus. His number one priority seems to be to see you do what he says, and he would rather see you do poor work than see you not follow instructions.

AVOID AT ALL COST! He can't draw well and so he will make you the same way by overcomplicating everything with his methods. Worst of all you barely get time to draw in his class until week 5 due to his overly extended demos that only focus on the same subject all the time. HE VALUES RENDERING MORE OVER GOOD PROPORTIONS IN DRAWING!

Favorite instructor here! He's tough, VERY strict, but you will learn extremely muon't stop explaining until you understand it. You can ch. He's funny and he wsee his passion as an instructor and he actually cares about you getting your money worth. Trust me, he is your money worth. Strongly recommended.(Handouts are very useful too)

He rely's too much on handouts.He talks too much. His demo's aren't that good & it'll be 5 wks b4 you get any good draw time in. He honestly thinks he's clever and funny. You can do better than Craig. But you will learn to draw better just to shut him up. Also, he's gotten better about not being such a jerk like yrs. b4.

I found this guy to be great fun and teach many overlooked aspects of light falling on planes, perspective. He has a great mind for coming up with ways to remember helpful rules. I can see how he might not click with some students but his steaching style for me was spot on! Tough, blunt, rude but hilarious and respectful.

It's quite obvious to me that a lot of these negative opinions about Craig are all from those who can't appreciate something good when it gets right up in their face and yells at them. He may be condescending at times but really by the time you get to heads and hands, you should be tough enough and good enough to take some criticism.

The first few weeks I thought I was gonna end up hating him because he does talk down to the students a little, but I ended up finding this class extremely helpful. You may hate him in the end but your drawing WILL improve if you take this class!

Great handouts; I still reference them (no lame Loomis photocopies). He's heavy on lecture, because he cross-trains in four areas: speed drawing, charcoal, pen, and clay sculpture. He teaches good techniques; My skill improved big time. He is sarcastic, but at least he's not boring. When he's not in a rush, he provides great personal attention.

When you only get about two and a half hours of drawing time out of a SEVEN HOUR DRAWING CLASS.. then you know something is wrong. Condescending and mean, unfunny and irritating.. if he would just let us draw it might be bearable. But he doesn't. So don't waste your time.

This guy is the worst teacher at the academy i've had so far. He gives NO demonstrations in class and theres a VERY good reason for that.... HE CAN'T DRAW IN CHARCOAL THAT WELL! Bottom line, Marshall is a know it all idiot, who makes up for his lack of drawing skill with endless lectures and handouts.
