She was the worst lecturer I have ever had. It was like trying to drink water through a fire hose. Although the midterm was take-home, the final was not, and we were expected to remember way too much. Nice lady, but she gave us no direction and I learned absolutely nothing.

This class was easy. There were 2 fairly short books for the essays and the rest of the reading went along with the lectures. All of the lectures had very helpful outlines and both of the TA's (Marcus and Jo) were very helpful. She sometimes read off lots of African names or places very quickly but there was only a midterm and a take home final.

Nice lady, TERRIBLE lecturer. I wouldn't have gone to class, had it not been for her taking attendance. The class is pretty easy though and you will learn quite a bit. Good for Div GE requirement, and the TAs are really cool.

HORRIBLE LECTURER, I would rather stick a penil in my eye then listen to her rattle off about a million African names a second. I would have gotten more out of watching TV for an hour and a half. Going to class was futile, I read the textbook and got a B.

Professor Brantley made thesis writing seem possible, not intimidating. She helped students keep research organized and efficient, and reminded us the importance of having fun with our subject. Her dedication to students is rare. If you have the opportunity, take one of her courses. She is a master of her subject, and relays her knowledge clearly.

Professor Brantley has this weird "sweet but strict" personality. I liked her, but I'm a little on the strange side. Teaches a difficult subject in a difficult manner. I recommend reading "South Africa for dummies" before putting yourself through her lecture. I always thought of the damnedest things during her class.

Great prof and knows a lot of information, but the lectures aren't outlined as clearly or thematically as they should be for a class that covers such a broad topic so it can be hard to follow and retain at times. She is very smart though.

Great honors seminar professor, lots of personal attention and very helpful. Made thesis writing not nearly as intimidating with writing/research exercises and journaling. Still consider her a good friend well after graduation.
