Comment:

Dana does not give good instructions, which is very confusing. However, it is clear that she is very intelligent and she knows so many contemporary artists that it is impressive as hell. She gives great feedback and loves to talk, which is sometimes good and sometimes not. Once you get used to Dana, you'll find she's a great professor!

Clancy is exceedingly helpful, kind, and engaged. while she may seem vague at first, she is the kind of professor that responds well to personal dialogue with students, a privilege only granted to those who put in the requisite effort. as a sounding board and attentive critic she is perfectly suited to upper level painting classes.

Comment:

She is in fact flighty and vague, and some people find her annoying but I think she's hilarious, (she's not trying to be, just the things she says sometimes), I loved her, taught me a lot of things and I've been drawing my whole life. Definitely recommend for Drawing 1 as opposed to the other option for CFA freshmen.

Dana is a really nice person. She wants you to succeed and takes a lot of class time walking around to each student to give suggestions. My drawing improved dramatically. This was my very first serious art class & Dana is an encouraging person. However, she is vague and too lenient...way too lenient for an art professor.

Comment:

Sometimes she can embarrass her students during critique, but it's not malicious/intentional. She's a nice person and she really does try to be helpful. However, she is vague. I did get some good advice from her, but overall she was difficult to understand. Even though she's flighty and vague, I enjoyed her class and would take another with her.

I thought I'd really like Dana but unfortunately she turned out to be argumentative towards her students and several times she humiliated students in class by doing one-on-one reviews in front of everyone - and as if that weren't enough, she's just plain annoying!

Wonderful teacher who is genuinly nice. Though she is very energetic and you can hear her thought process through the assignment, she gets to the point at the end. Her assignments may seem "pointless" but by the end you understand how she is incorperating the foundation of color and shape many modernt artist experiment with.

Really likes to hear herself talk but usually doesn't make a whole lot of sense when doing so. Assignments are really repetitive and void of creativity. I swear to god we drew nothing but blocks for the first month and a half. Her perkiness is annoying. This class actually convinced me NOT to major in art...literally.

Ultimately, I like her as a teacher. She's pretty diplomatic and professional, though also very vague. She teaches as if she weren't an artist with her own opinions, which leaves you to form your own opinions in her class; which is good, but not quite so good if you consider that her criteria and even coursework is set up very specifically.
