Comment:
Dr. Patterson is not a great professor. He is a tough grader and isn't of much help when you need assistance with assignments. This class is, no doubt, a WI with a lot of homework. His lectures are also very boring and he rambles. He often cuts students off when they attempt to participate in class, basically saying their analysis is incorrect.

Comment:
Dr. Patterson is unclear on what he wants your papers to be about. If you think you are a good writer, think again! He gave half of the class an E on their papers. Also you read a lot but only have to write two papers. His responses are not helpful. He says like "vague" or just puts a question mark. If you have a choice do NOT take this professor.

Comment:
Dr. Patterson is not personable at all. In this class you write 3 papers on the 3 books he has you read. He is extremely tough when he grades and if he doesn't agree with your opinion he shuts you down very quickly. Class is almost mandatory because he grades you based on how much you contribute to class discussion. Would definitely not recommend.

Very difficult course, and the professor is difficult to get a hold of. Changes due dates at the last minute & is a incredibly hard grader. Looks for a discussion based class but be careful of suggesting anything he doesn't agree with.

Dr. Patterson knows what he's talking about but he is a difficult prof. Always got A's on my papers, wrote one for his class and then revised it at the writing center and received a B-. Plus he offers one revision but won't improve your grade on the revision. Also, you have to read nine books for this class, be prepared and do your reading!

Unclear with what he wants, terrible at teaching the material. I would recommend taking the course with another professor.

Overall you have to read nine selections. If you are a feminist you will love Daniel. Also if English is not a real interest of yours, I highly recommend taking an easier course. You have to write a total of two papers along with one revision. He is a great professor with an amazing reading voice. If you do not agree with him you are wrong.

The content did not match up with sections taught by other professors and he expected students to already be familiar with writing literary analyses without a prerequisite class that would have taught you or even explaining what he wanted. We were reading 300 (minimum) pages a week with a reading response due at each class. Please never take him!!

He is most definitely full of himself. Be careful. The class is split into 5 20% components. 20% for each of three essays (60% total), 20% for reading responses, and 20% for participation. Attendance is mandadtory!! If you miss more than 2 classes he automatically drops you a half of a letter grade... Go to his office hours for essays too.

He talks to his students as if they are way below his intelligence level. He sometimes criticized some of the beliefs of the students in my class and they were slightly offended by it. He is a harsh grader and can be rude at times. He has a sense of humor once in a while, but I felt as though he wasn't rooting for me to pass the class.

If you are an English major you must take Dr. Patterson before graduating. He gives great feedback on every assignment. He allows revisions on papers which are never more than 6 pages in length. His voice is so beautiful. I'd take another course with him just to hear his voice again! If you talk with him outside of class you will do very well.

This class is a requirement to graduate. He was a a very demanding grader and was never clear on how he wanted the papers structure. He also doesn't help the students to pass, never in his office during office hours. Very hard to get hold of.

As an English Major, I had little to no interest in Romanticism, but always have been interested in theory. His 460 class is Ecocriticism, not something often heard. I've always considered myself to be a great writer, but Dr. Patterson truly helped me take that next step to a higher level. If you truly want to learn and excel, take his classes.

This class was all based around classroom discussion and three papers. He grades pretty hard and definitely has his own opinions about things. I did not find this class interesting because all we did was talk about environmental texts that I had never read. He will go off about his own topics he's interesting in. Go to class and participate.

If you don't like to read, do not take this class. You read about 300 pages a night. He has his own interpretations, sticks to them and shoots down anything else. But if you don't understand, go talk to him. He's very passionate about English and helpful. Smart guy.

This professor assigns a ridiculous amount of homework and he is never clear in his expectations. He also has an extremely dry and antiquated sense of humor. Not open to interpretations of text other than his own.

Comment:
This professor sees what he wants to see in texts (like Hamlet) and if you try to challenge that or provide your own view, he shoots you down and lets other (who agree with him) talk all the time about what they think. I would avoid this class if you can, at least with him. Every class period I dread and I leave upset with him & how he teaches.
