extremely unclear on expectations, useless and generic feedback on assignments, wants syllabus memorized but does not follow requirements on it, wen asked a question, the only response is 'refer to the syllabus' which is unclear to begin with, doesnt seem like he wants to help his students do well in his class or to enjoy what he is teaching them

The worst of the worst. Unclear assignments, horrible communication. Participation marks were worth 20% which he graded strictly and then he missed half the semester.

Took his Animal Rights history course because after nothing but learning about dead people for years, animals seemed a nice change. Nice prof, very friendly, very approachable. Provides good content, and a useful textbook. Unfortunately, his assignments ARE a bit confusing - doesn't do a good job of explaining requirements even when clarifying.

David is an extremely nice individual but he is a terrible professor. The criteria for his assignments was very unclear which was very frustrating. He also assigned an inordinate amount of work for an undergraduate class. David was also a hard marker. Participation counted for much of the grade, but tutorials were not conducive to discussion.

David is a great professor, and is far more open, and approachable compared to a lot of the other SFU history professors I have had experiences with. Give him your attention, and effort, and you will do well. After all, isn't that what you are at school for? His accent was not a problem at all.

David's a great prof, and very approachable. He does have a strong accent, but it's not hard to understand and if he does say something you don't understand-ask! He doesn't mind. A hard marker but you can still get an A or A- with effort. My only complaint was that he took 3 weeks to start the course, first 3 lectures were going over the syllabus.

David is an amazing prof. He is extremely approachable and very helpful. He is very open minded and does not force his opinions on you. His animal liberation class is amazing. The topic is super interest and you will learn a lot and have fun too.

I just completed David's Animal Protection class and it was one of the best classes I have taken at SFU. David gives you the mark you deserve, if you put effort into your work you will be rewarded. If you ask questions he is extremly helpful and approachable. More importantly, he doesnt force you to accept his own views like some profs at SFU.

His marking is quite difficult, whereas in another 3rd year history class it's easy to get a B no problem with him the equivalent would be a C-. His mid-term was alright, not too hard, if you do the readings you should have no problem. My only complaint is his marking, where I feel he is too harsh, also it doesn't help that he is not approachable.

It seems like all the bad comments about David are coming from people that need to take ESL classes to learn how to speak English properly...yes he has an accent, but he is a thought provoking instructor. I would recommend his animal protection history class to anyone!

David was a nice prof but i didn't find him very approachable. I found the mid-term to be very easy. The assignments weren't tough, but a head start would probably help. And if you don't participate in tutorials your marks will definately suffer.

Well , yes he is nice. But the midterm is not for those who is ESL Student. Trust me 50 minutes to write a essay with 4-5 pages. Well honestly, he is very hard marker, otherwise how come there is over 50% of ppl failing and 10% A & B (those who retake the course) and the rest 40% is C level with about 10-12 out of 20. Nice not =easy .....

I understood him better than others thanks to a few years of French Immersion, but even I had trouble sometimes. Seems to make his courses MUCH harder at first than they should be, but he's open to input from students and TA's and eventually makes things more reasonable. Takes a bit of work, but you can learn a lot from the guy.
