Comment:
I liked Dave as a person but unfortunately can't say the same for him as a prof. His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the assessments and are terribly organized. His half of the course was not taught well and this was proven through the lower class average on the midterm and exam, which consisted of mostly copied and pasted questions.

Spent more time in class name dropping and talking about how big his supposed friends houses were than covering the actual material. No point in going to class at all. Just read the textbook and avoid him in the future,

If you're serious about a career in geology, I'm sure he would help you. If you are in any other faculty get ready for backhanded comments about your chosen major and a prof who refutes anthropogenic climate change with a a roll of his eyes in class. Spends more time name dropping and talking about "big bucks" then actually lecturing the material.

Dave Lentz is one of the most inspiring prof ever I have met so far. He tried to place you at the frontiers of geoscience by providing the current references - making it really challenging to fully understand the context of his course. Obviously, his course is very helpful in understanding the Earth system, how it works, and science behind it.

Very intelligent man. Knows everyone in the industry. If you can show him that you are a good student he can help you get connections. Classes seem chaotic but there is a method to his teaching...he really wants his students to be self-sufficient. He is a fair professor although sometimes hard to follow.

Not a bad guy, has to teach the most difficult part of the class, which is also the most boring. Does what he can. Very approachable. Its just tough material.....Still a good prof. Take the comments on this site for what they are worth. Many people grade the class, or did poorly...and don't grade the prof.

note to Lentz: "You are not here to impress me with name dropping and billions-and-billions-of-$$ speeches. You are here to teach me and I don't feel you did a very good job of it"

Just wrote his exam. I don't know where he finds his information or questions but I'm guessing it's from some resource students aren't privied to. Completely unfair on midterms/exams. He shows powerpoints too fast and you can't take notes from his lectures. Terrible prof.

His lectures are more like infomercials than geology lessons. Sometimes it seemed like he'd prefer to sell us gold than teach or was more interested in getting summer jobs for students. Make sure you read the textbook during for his part of the course.

No doubt that his class is a tonne of work but he will tell you everything you need to know if you ask. Plus he'll let you pass things in super late and not take marks off.

One of the worst profs ever!! Goes through the material too fast, and doesn't put the lecture slides on reserve until the end of the semester, so you're screwed for his midterm.
