We were part of a student program she had just started in and it showed through her teaching. She was unable to teach us properly and it reflected poorly on all students in the program except the white students. I hope she gets over her prejudice and is able to teach these students as well as she has taught students previously mentioned.

Such an amazing professor! Quite a few assignments but learned SO much from her class and always looked forward to going. Incredibly genuine + eager to help; hands down the most helpful feedbackinstruction I've ever received. Really positive learning environment + great class discussions. Was so sad when the semester ended. Take this class!

Saint of a woman, perfect prof for a first year University student. Very helpful on papers and wants you to do better, saw my mark on each assignment go up with her feedback. Very passionate about english and picks great plays and novels to read. Would take another class from her and would recommend her to anyone!

I thought Dawn was an amazing teacher! She is a hard marker but gave great feedback. Lots of grammar assignments (easy marks and helps you learn) She has a good sense of humor! I would have her as a prof again.

Dawn is an amazing prof. she may come off as being tough but shes really not! I believe she can help anyone write amazing essays and learn a lot about grammar and poetry even if you knew nothing before. If you have the chance take a class from her! Highly recommended.

I enjoyed Dawn's class quite a bit. She focuses on grammar FAR too much -- our class did not read any poems for over a month. but she is a fun teacher and easy to understand. a fair marker, she provides you with all the information on how she will mark your assignments. always check the website, as not all assignments are announced in class.

I would definitely recommend her class. She was very helpful and the writing tips she gives are very useful in other classes. Classes were never boring. She may seem like she marks hard, but if you do bad just pay attention to her corrections and your mark will keep getting better!

Very personable- but utterly useless if you want to learn anything beyond high school level English. She is a nice woman, but her classroom mannerisms are a bit contrived - she's a bit of a phony - I recommend her if English isn't your favorite subject as she'll be lively, but you simply won't learn much.

Dawn is the GREATEST prof ever! I learned so much from her. I do not really like English but really enjoyed her class. She does expect quite a bit from her students and you will not receive any free marks but it is very worth it, TAKE THIS CLASS!

Great prof, all around. Quite intimidating at first, but easy to warm up to, very personable. My only complaint is that she is VERY opinionated and will not budge on her beliefs. (And I for one, don't believe there is sexual imagery in Star Wars).

BEST PROF EVER. Hands down. Dawn is incredable. One has to be willing to give her a chance. For the first two or three classes I was soooo scared of her. But once I saw past the fact that she is only intense because she loves the subject so much and because she wants you to learn and get your money's worth, I learned to LOVE her.

There is a difference between sucking up to the TA for a mark and actually learning from her. I was talked down to by Dawn. She's as lousy at business as she is at othello. I may be new in Comm but I know experience when I see it. One email to the prof showed me that phillips had the experience that the TAs bragged about but never had.

Great prof! I learned SO much from her this past year. My first marks at the beginning of the year were pretty brutal so I went and talked to her for all the big assignment and she was more than willing to help. You need to put in a lot of time and effort into this class but it will show in your marks!

Love her! She is SO intimidating the first few classes but those who can't take it aren't gonna like her. Because she is honest, outgoing, and so passionate, I love English even more now. She's pretty much the reason I am considering majoring in English at the U of S! Don't expect to half-ass your way to a 50; she expects as much as she gives!

I found this woman mean spirited. I've always put 100% into my studies and have been marked accordingly, yet she made me feel like an idiot. If you're like me and have to work hard in English, but genuinely want to improve, Friel-Hipperson is not the prof. for you.

Dawn is the best professor ever. She's amazing. She expects good writing, but if you listen to her comments and listen in class, writing will improve ten-fold.
