Dr. Cook may seem a little chilly a first, but as you get to know her youll notice her warmth and humor shining through. Not always enthusiastic, but brilliantly intelligent. A real inspiration to me. One warning: she is a tough marker. If you are passionate about philosophy, you will appreciate her. Dont expect a bird class.

Interesting class loved the content but the professor is hard to reach outside class. also if she doesn't like you she talks to you in a good way when your in class with your peers and a worse way when you and she are alone. If she doesn't like a student she downgrades them in a quite rude way. Intelligent lecturer knows her material but very picky.

Comment:
Some of her methods are not fair. For instance, she requires that you choose your final paper topic three weeks into the course based on material that has not even been covered yet. She is intelligent, but very pretentious and extremely unwelcoming to opinions that differ from her own. Smart lady, sub-par teacher.

Comment:
A reviewer commented that Dr. Cook is ?modest about her credentials.? This is absolutely untrue. She will let you know that she studied at the Sorbonne with Foucault and Derrida and that you are inferior and hopeless by comparison; she thrives off of breaking students down without ever trying to build them up. The hallmark of a crummy professor.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant...She is quite literally one of the most intelligent human beings I have ever met. While not very approachable at times and immensely intimidating (she studied with Foucault) it is worth it to take a class with her. If you want an A though, you need to work your ass off because an A in her books is perfection.

Dr Cook is the best-kept secret of the University. Her academic credentials, of which she is very modest, are enough to make her ivy-league quality (studied at the Sorbonne with Foucault!) but she chooses to stay here. This is NOT an easy-A prof but it will be an invaluable learning experience that you would be an idiot to turn down for grades.

All I can say is go to class and write notes and you'll be fine. She's pretty nice but don't talk during class and try to answer questions. You want her to know your name.

Cook is a great professor. Compared to others, she gives her students a much better, clearer, explanation of whatever she is teaching. Marking is tough but more than fair; all tests are usually take-home - but that does not mean they're easy. If you get the chance, take a class with her, you will learn a lot if you utilize the opportunity.

Dr. Cook is an amazing professor. She is difficult, but if you're having problems she is more than willing to help -if- you've done the work (and she can tell). Every mark you get in her class is earned. She's hard, but you'll come out of her class with a much better understanding of the material.

The professor was rude to students when they didn't feel like participating. She seems very knowledgeable but she doesn't know how to teach students. She expects too much that students do the talking, but I suggest that she improve her teaching.

Awesome prof, very demanding and she makes you work hard for what you want, the way it should be. She really cares about opening up students' minds with a very unique passive aggressive technique that I admire...did you know she studied with Foucault!!?
