Shes tough and could be intimidating in the beginning of the semester but youll get used to how she teaches and runs the class. By the second pop quiz you almost know when she plans on giving pop quizzes and they are fairly short and easy. Lectures are long and fast and does give a lot of homework but if you do the homework youll pass the class

It is disappointing that someone like this is teaching at the University. I am PAYING to take this course to learn and for someone to teach it to me, I am not paying to teach it to myself. Her pace of teaching is set at 150 MPH on cruise control. She gives a truckload of homework (80% of it we didn't do in class) and tests are grueling. AVOID!!!!!

Do yourself a favor and do not take her for stat 251. Her tests are extremely difficult, she gives pop quizzes, if you miss class or skip more than 2 times you may as well drop (I never missed and still found it challenging however). She moves way to fast to be able to take notes and understand the material at the same time. Do not recommend.

Comment:

Gougeon is hands down the most problematic irrational professor I have ever taken at any level. She is stubborn about the way you format everything and refuses to realize that for most problems there is more than one way of about going about them. Her way is always the longest hardest way of going about the problems. This class is a headache.

I had her 2 semesters in a row. If you had her for Stat 251 and have her again for Stat 252, it is not nearly as bad. She is a fair grader and assigns a lot of homework but does not check or grade it so you only need to do as much as you think is necessary.

She is a hard teacher, she moves through the materiel quickly but will gladly go back if you do not understand something. She assigns what seems like a lot of homework but it rarely takes more than 30 minutes. Tests are difficult so make sure you study and are ready for them. It is a hard class but not impossible if you try.

For the people trying to tell you to take her class they have to be either out of their mind or just trying to get her rating up on this website. The only way i can describe sitting in her hour and 15 minute class is being water boarded with information for for the whole time. The math aspect of this class is pretty easy but the amount is crazy

This class left me completely drained by the end of the 1hr 15min. She goes so fast, but the time I finished copying the problem, she already finished it. Tons of homework (not collected but she's still expects you to do most of it). Extremely long and difficult tests. Can only use a scientific calculator (not the graphing one). DO NOT TAKE!!!

She is a great teacher and is very good at explaining the material. skipping class is not an option or else you might miss one of three pop quizzes and i don't believe you can make them up. tests are very straightforward and not bad. she gives a lot of homework but you only have do as much or as little as you want- it's not collected.

Gougeon is a very knowledgeable professor. she is very good at teaching and makes sure you understand everything. you do get a lot of homework, but it's the only way you will learn. keep up with the material and homework and you'll do great!

DO NOT TAKE HER! She is a helpful teacher and all, but she teaches this class like it is the only one her students have. Literally 2 hours of homework a night and the tests are impossible to finish on time. For participation, she randomly calls on you to answer so you must be 100% prepared and know all material or she'll make a fool out of you :(

Completely unreasonable. Missed a class due to a death in the family and she refused to let me make up the quiz or exempt me from the quiz because "it would be unfair to other students." Tried to see the dean about her but there was nothing he could due because she's been here so long. The Jesuit way at its finest!

"Expects you to know everything once she teaches it."? Hah, um yes, don't all Professors? Definitely worked harder in this class than any other, but I came out learning more than I ever have before. Dr. Gougeon has high standards, which I respect her for. She is also willing to help you if you need it! I would recommend her class!

Easily the most miserable teacher at the U. Goes to fast with everything. Cannot keep up with notes. Expects you to know everything once she teaches it. Doesn't give you any time for quizzes. Can't even finish them. Literally never take her if you know what's good for you. Absolutely horrible

I really hate stat as a subject in general, but Gougen is pretty good at teaching it. She can seem impatient and mean sometimes, but if you go to her with questions she can be very helpful. My advice for this class: go to class, study hard, and hope for the best.

Comment:

Overall, Professor Gougeon is one of the best math teachers i have ever had. She gives quite a bit of homework and a quiz every class. This gets tedious, but it really helps you stay on top of the material and do well on the exams. I worked really hard and will probably come out with an A-/B+, but i learned a lot from her.

Dr. Gougeon is a great teacher. You have to work very hard and she gives a quiz almost every class, but it forces you to study and you end up doing well on the tests if you study for the quizzes. It was a lot of work but she definitely prepared me for STAT 2. I highly recommend her.
