Honestly, I wanted to like Dr. Hickey. He seems like a very nice and genuine person overall. But he seems to be better suited for research and far, far away from the classroom. His lectures are scattered and incomplete. After close to an hour of almost verbatim note-taking, I'm left with a page of gibberish. Sigh.

I am not impressed by his teaching style. Tests and quizzes are the only points in that class. He is really hard to understand. I read the book and took notes and class and haven't passed a test. He always says he does not grade on a curve and will fail everyone.

The information you receive in lectures comes scrambled, and you have to assemble it into something coherent. Most of your grade is essay based, so knowing the material is important. You will study a lot. He's a little dull, but he gets a bad rep. He's very helpful if you approach him personally and seems to appreciate effort.

Dr. Hickey is a brilliant man. He knows a lot and he cares about his students. Very nice guy, but is pretty boring in his lectures. His tests are very involved. Matching, Short Answer, and an Essay that is half the test grade. If you read your book and pay attention in class. You'll be fine. If you don't... don't take his class.

He was the worst teacher I have EVER had! I was in the Honors Pirates class...it was the first year the class was offered, but it was horrendous. He did not stop talking, and your essays were never good enough. If you consider taking him, RUN and don't look back! I hated the class, and so did every other student in it.

Nice enough guy but don't take the 2.5 hour class unless u have to, talks for almost 2 hours straight w/o many notes. Extremely hard to get an A unless you're REALLY great at essays since majority of his tests are that and he deducts for spelling/grammar. Know obscure info that may/may not be discussed. Saving grace: the 45 min video. Drink coffee!

Took this class as a core class because I needed it before I could graduate. Class was not very interesting. He talks the whole class. Spends a lot of time on a subject. We didnt really cover a lot of material in the class. tests wer all essay. I don't think i would take another class with him. Don't get me wrong, he is a very smart and nice guy.

Dr. Hickey has a passion for his subject. He makes you prove that you have been in attendence and attentive by his essay quizzes and tests. Be prepared to prove that you've learned the material and can give it back to him, in detail. Very knowledgeable man who teaches a very interesting course with a unique perspective.

This professor is a really cool guy. He's nice, and what not but isn't the best at teaching. I'm sorry. When he writes on the board it looks like a preschooler did it, and he jumps all over the place. I had a difficult time in his class. He is a great guy, but not a great teacher. I'm sure he'd be better in a shorter class time, not 2.5 hours.

Dr. Hickey is an amazing professor. Yes, he assigns books and assigns papers with not a lot of time for completion, but he is incredibly knowledgeable and in-depth with his lectures - the books aren't dull either. Definitely worth the effort - You WILL learn something.

He crams the entire course into the last half of the semester. He tells you there will be a test on a 563 page book two weeks from that day with no regards to your other classwork, time spent at your job, etc., then tops it off with a 15 page research paper and one week to read another book for the final. Nice guy, terrible professor.

He didn't start talking about the holocaust or any resistance to the holocaust until over halfway through the course. He starts lecturing about non related things to the course, spends most of the class doing so, and then runs the class over time because he started the real lecture too late. but overall he's a nice guy and the class is okay.

He's knowledgable. He gets his facts wrong sometimes, and talks out of order and gets sidetracked. Repeats himself from class to class. He didn't give us facts we needed for an essay until after we turned the essay in. He takes off points for essays for stupid things like using "was" instead of "became" just because he likes "became" better.

Very knowledgeable about what he teaches and expects you to pay attention and do the required reading. His tests aren't easy, there is very little multiple choice and you will need to write detailed essays. He doesn't require exact dates and shows lots of videos. Come to class, take notes, and read the book and you'll do fine.

Dr. Hickey is a really cool dude liked his class a lot, really really really really intelligent he knows his stuff. I learned a lot. But if you take him WRITE DOWN EVERY WORD HE PUTS ON THE BOARD AND MOST OF THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH CAUSE IF YOU DON'T IT WILL COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU ON HIS TEST

He seemed a little odd early in the semester. But as time went on, he seemed like a nice guy. He is very intelligent and knows his material extensively. However, his methods of teaching are poor. He lacks technology abilities and creating an interesting class. It is rather a very boring class. Attendance is a must, he gives many notes.
