Dermot is an amazing professor! He makes you work for your grade and the class is far from easy, but if you go to class and pay attention an A is easily attainable. He also gives out opportunities for extra credit daily. He's a pretty funny guy as well. I didn't open the book once.

Comment:
Dermot is a good person but teaching style isn't the greatest. There aren't actual notes, just drawing graphs in your notebook and deciphering them later. He goes through the material a bit too quick sometimes and don't know how he ended up at an answer. But it does get easier to follow later in the semester by the time you take the second exam.

Professor Hayes is a very good teacher and it was an easy A if you pay attention to the lectures, but he doesn't make you read the textbook to do well or other outside readings. It was a good class overall but I felt like we could have learned more if we had to do something besides just pay attention in class.

Awesome professor, very nice and easily accessible. He really wants to help his students. Your grade is based on 4 exams (lowest one was dropped) and every time you answer a question you get an extra point toward your exam!! NEVER OPENED THE BOOK!!!!!

He challenges his students while also making sure the content is taught in a respectful manner. The tests are just 4-5 questions and you write your answers and draw your graphs on a blank sheet of paper. His teaching is interactive as students can answer questions and get extra points. I definitely recommend Dermot

Dermot is probably the best Econ teacher at Iowa State. Explains his content very well and makes sure you know it before he moves on. People may find him hard if they don't understand Econ at all or just don't pay attention but overall he's a fantastic teacher and a great guy.

Dermot Hayes was my favorite professor from my first semester at ISU. Definitely take his Econ 101 class over anybody else's. He has a slight Irish accent which makes him fun to listen to but he teaches well. As long as you pay attention in class and take decent notes you'll do fine. The class is only graded on 4 tests and he drops the lowest one.

Dr. Hayes is a pretty neat guy and lectures are interesting. Get good at taking notes and read the textbook because he only draws graphs on the blackboard as he lectures.

Dermot Hayes was by far one of my absolute favorite professors at Iowa State. He truly cares for his students and wants everyone to succeed. He will willing to go the extra mile and explain concepts in detail while also giving extra credit for those who answer. Class is only for Ag Bus students but if you can squeeze in -- highly recommend!!

Dr. Hayes is a really nice guy, but his lectures were vague and difficult to learn from. I learned almost all of the information for the exams the week before the test on my own by reading the book and doing practice tests. Your grade comes solely from the 4 tests you take and the lab that accompanies the class.

First off, YOU DON'T NEED THE BOOK. However, it is nice to have as a cross reference. Dermot is the greatest professor I've had thus far. Multiple chances for extra credit in his class every day. Do the homework and study an average amount, and you should have no problem getting an A. Got over 100% in his class and didn't have to take the final

By far the greatest professor here at Iowa State. I honestly feel bad for every student that doesn't take Econ 101 with him. He has a great learning environment and makes it interesting. I bought the book and cross read everything that he went over in class. But, you don't NEED the book. I'm going to miss Econ with him :( Not easy, but you learn.

Hayes is one of the best professors I have had at Iowa State. This class isn't easy by any means, but if you take good notes and go to the review sessions, you will do well on the tests. Its a class I got a lot out of. Oh, DON'T BUY THE BOOK. I didn't open it once.

He does a great job of teaching the material, but DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! If you take good notes and study them you'll do fine since he tests over the material he teaches. Some of the information is hard, but with studying, you can grasp the concept. Tests are all written. 4 to 6 questions each. You have to be both smart and a hard worker todo well.
