Don is the man, he is brilliant and knows what he's talking about. People who said this class was boring are probably too incompetent to understand the material. Genius!!! had his courses a while ago, pretty sure he's retired now. Great guy.

He is a great lecturer. Those of you who can't see that must be pretty dim. Philosophy is not about being practical, or even getting a job. It is about inspiration and helping you live a better life. Weiss gives you anecdotal information because he wants you to relate William James's view of say Pragmatism or Religion to your day to day life.

Course is pretty easy, as far as upper level philosophy seminars go. You don't have to participate, and he gives you lots of freedom on what you want to write for the paper.

There is genius even in his tangents. Liberals and Conservatives both like him, and he is well-respected by the faculty as fair minded and genuine. In class, I would encourage students to ask questions, otherwise he goes on tangents, but sometimes it is those which are most enlightening. He runs an open class, nothing is off-limits unless its crude

i dont usually write comments about professors but when i saw that this one is so underappricaited it made my body tremble. it is difficult to be a philosophy professor. this is the best one in binghamton. dont listen to these rating things, show up the first day and see if you like him. if you dont, you shouldnt be in philosophy.

So disorganized that I forced myself to drop the course. He makes almost no connections between the readings, offers little guidance with papers, and does not respond e-mails. Only take him for an easy A. Warning to real students: you will not learn a d@mn thing in Weiss' classes.

I skipped about 6 weeks in a row, Tues/Thurs classes, no discussion or TAs involved, and still got a B. He talks about himself, his life, tells us useless stories and in general talks about nothing. The papers definitely have topics that you can write about, but he is an odd grader.

Captivating speaker. I agree that if you are just looking to "check the box", his classes aren't for you. If you truly want to learn something, attend the lectures and pay attention. He is interested in his students -visit him during office hours for interesting and intelligent conversation.

I learned many things in that class...many things EXCEPT philosophy. All he does is talk about absolutely nothing and excepts to write papers about what he says in lecture! HUH??? But the TAs grade easy because they know he talks about noth

Don is the man. Like all Phds loves to hear himself talk but is quite interesting. If you know how to write you will probably get an A. Doesn't overwhelm you with reading but instead does a detailed reading of two great books. Take this course.

His lectures are usually very interesting, but going to lecture has absolutely nothing to do with your grade, and is completely unnecessary. I went to class 1/2 the time. Easy A if you're a decent writer.

This class was stupid. Everything depends on the TA. He went on way to many tangents and never made any sense. Grade depends on the paper, quite easy to do well even if you dont go to lecture.

His lectures are not boring and irrelevant. True, you can write the papers and do well without going to lecture... but if you are taking the class to learn, which college is for, rather than just gather information to reiterate for a grade, you will enjoy

Generally, only 1/3 of the class bothers going to lecture--why? Because it's almost completely irrelevant. The lectures are generally dull. The class is just paper writing--really easy. Of course, my TA didn't speak eng. but was picky as hell!

his lectures are pretty boring most of the time and aren't that clear as to what he's talking about. i had a good TA that knew what he was talking about so it was pretty easy. basically the grade is based on papers you have to write which aren't hard.
