Im not an English major and was stuck taking this class with professor micklus it was the best thing I could have done. Yes there are books you have to read but we discuss them in class in case you get lost (pretty straight forward books). You get a lot of freedom writing the papers and hes always available to help.

He is very intelligent and soulful and has some genuine wisdom to impart to his students. That said, class can get boring as he sometimes just speaks continuously for 90 minutes. He is very funny in his own way and also tries deeply to connect to the material and to his students. The workload isn't bad and you can get away with not doing a ton.

The other comments are spot on. Easy class and he is straightforward but very boring. All lectures and few chances to participate. He also stopped taking attendance after a while. The whole course is 2 exams (which you can use cheat sheets for) and 1 essay. I did none of the readings and got an A. For the American Lit requirement I recommend.

I honestly have never skipped this class just because I didn't even want to. One of my favorite classes I've taken so far. Discussions are super interesting if you get into them and Micklus is really personable and fun to listen to. Take if you love reading and can read relatively quickly.

Nice and very laid back but lectures are long and he goes on a lot of tangents (a few are actually interesting). A good plus is that his tests are really straight forward and if you go to class and take notes, everything on the test is something he's repeated. The work is just two tests and a final 5-6 page paper and then class participation.

The prof is an old guy who just needs an outlet to talk to anything about his life with. His papers have no rubric and he gives you nothing to really work with. Decent grader, but hard to get an A. Most of the books are southern, slow, and boring reads. His lectures are his therapy and he likes to talk about how much he hates phones.

Really nice guy, little bit of a boring class. did none of the readings up until right before the exams and as long as you have good notes you will be okay like that. gives essay questions before the in-class essays so you have time to prepare. overall would recommend if you're an English major

He was a really sweet guy but the class was super boring. Everyone in the class is either on their computer or zoning out. Make sure you have all the reading done on time and review for his exams carefuly.

Great professor! I loved literature prior to taking his class, and love it even now. Very clear, VERY knowledgeable, loves what he does. I don't even go to BU (took this as a summer class) but he makes me want to. And he's soo sexxyyyyy.

Micklus is a great professor for anyone freshmen to senior. He has some great insight and he's very sweet and fun! He loves to engage with students and hear their imput. He was suppose to be a prof. Baseball player!!! :) But decided he loved English enough to teach. When a prof loves their job, they're always awesome!

Nice guy. I don't doubt his intelligence but his teaching ability is questionable. He digresses so much from the material that class is a waste of time. Also did not specify weight of exams and papers in syllabus. Not very helpful with questions concerning final paper.

Professor Mickulus is an outstanding, creative, sweet, and humorous professory. Some of the characteristics I just describe is difficult to find in a professor. He taught me a lot and I tend to disagree with some of the students that he is boring. He knows how to make the class entertaining, exciting and delightful.

He's a lot like Mr. Rogers. Personally, I find it very boring. There's no real though involed, and the assignments are like reading a cookbook. He spoon feeds you to the point of naseau. There's no such thing as an "easy A" when you have to endure this kind of drudgery.

Uncle Micklus is the most amazing professor I've ever had at BU. He is a down to earth human being unlike a lot of other professors here. He didn't give us any "assignments" and he gave us the essay topics before the test. He gives a lot of feedback on essays and he's a fair grader too. He's insightful and I can't say enough good things.
