I believe if you have a face to face interaction, you will see that she truly does care for the success of her students. Shes a tougher grader, but only because she expects the best from you. I'd always ask her about the specifics about what she is looking for before a written assignment. But, she will clarify. I learned a good deal.

Dr. Ruiz is truly invested in enriching the lives & academic experiences of her students. Comments about her being a tough grader is from lazy students. College isn't about doing a little to get by. The point of a writing intensive course is to become a better writer. Pay attention, invest in the class, and she will work to help you improve.

Where do I begin? The class is not too difficult if you take notes throughout. The professor however is crazy, she has no filter and is kind of rude at times (laughably). This is the most interesting class I've ever taken. Mostly consists of watching documentaries, having discussions, and having tests on the documentaries/lectures.

Definitely a hard class because it's writing intensive. Follow the syllabus including her changes to the syllabus. Tough grader but once you figure out what she is looking for not bad at all. Meet with her and you'll definitely benefit. I thought she was a really great professor. She may come off "hard" but just give her a chance she's really not.

She is a nice enough person, but her class was terrible. I never knew exactly what she wanted when it came to assignments. I would do exactly as she would as but then she would give me a bad grade. She isn't clear on most things, and it is easy to get confused about when assignments are due and what you are supposed to do for them.

she is all about FACTS when it comes to literature! Be prepared to read! She gave 4, 3 1/2 page essays and one was 5 pages. She's critical about thesis statements and essay guidelines. She could be inconsistent with the syllabus at first but you'll learn how to work with it. Don't be intimidated to go to her office hours it really helps.

May come off hard,sarcastic, rude, intimidating but she truly cares about the success of her students and their writing. Go to her office she is a whole lot better in a one on one setting. If you really want to build/improve your writing skills she in the one to take. I will admit it WILL NOT be EASY.

She is totally inflexible and closed-minded when it comes to any idea that differs from her own. Her grading is also a bit sketchy. All in all this professor is all over the place and made my last semester a nightmare

Just call her Ms. Essay. This is an intensive writing class and this was the firt time she gave a class 10 essays, 2 test and 1 position paper. Just follow her essay format the way SHE want it and U should be fine.She encourage participation. Class was a little stiff at first but was like family towards the end. Attendance is mandatory. This lady is the worst teacher I have ever taken. Hated going to her class and she had a mandatory attendance so my grade was affected by it. If you have any brians you won't take her. She is the worst professor I have ever had at UNCC. She has no idea what she wants, her notes are extremely unorganized, and she goes back on her word all the time....and whats more, she likes to make you look stupid if you speak up.

Her class is relatively easy. Its boring, shes not one of my favorite professors at all. The student is never right, she is always right. She will tell you, you position is well taken but completely ignores what you say. I should have an A. As long as you read the book you will do fine.
