If you are unsure of your abilities or have any weaknesses, Doug will sniff you out like a shark sensing blood in water. After a while you get use to his methods and realize that you are effectively learning some advanced concepts but, if you are soft and cant handle the truth or the challenges he provides, then Doug is not the professor for you

Doug has a tough guy, hardass exterior. But on the inside, he is one of the most caring and helpful professors. As we say in CS "Doug is the source and solution to all our problems" He will make you cry, and so will the assignments, but he will be one of the only people working harder than you for your success. Makes you a better coder and human

One of my favorite professors at PU. He comes off as a very grumpy, mean man but all he wants is you to succeed. His humor is different, and his angry face looks the same as his happy face. His class is difficult and takes a lot of time outside the class.

He has a sense of humor many people would view as coming off as a jerk, but he means best. When it comes to asking questions he really makes you think about it. There is no spoon feeding in his class. When it comes to lectures he knows what he is talking about and takes any questions you have. Overall a great professor and a great class.

Hated him at first. Hard teacher. Old school kind of dude. Does not hold your hand and give you answers. He wants you to figure them out yourself. He is the most demanding prof I ever had. Challenges you in ways that you may want to quit. But if you push through you will be better prepared in CS. I am a PU CS alum. One of the best prof I ever had.

I left PU 5 years ago and I cannot believe this guy is still there. I was majoring in CS. I had to miss an exam, because of class conflicts. He told me I would have to drop his class or take an F. I dropped. When I went to retake his class, he asked me why I was there and that I would not pass the class. I eventually left PU.

Extremely intimidating at first, Doug both a hardass and an extremely effective teacher, if you can stand the heat. His program is quite difficult, but the education I got at Pacific ended up being leagues ahead of some of my peers at other schools. He speaks with absolute precision and expects the same. Excellent if you can stand it.

Very intimidating, but a really nice guy once you get to know him. Tests and grading for programs are killer, but fair. Doesn't just GIVE you the answers, but makes you figure it out on your own.
